Okay, I have finally gotten the mind set off Sony for a while and PS2 and PSP. I looked at gamestop.com, and noticed that the original Xbox is like $50, which is pretty good considering that I have very little money, I am 14. It is the original. Here is the link:

Okay, one review says it got the RROD. Is that typical? Can it be prevented? What exactly happens when it gets it?

Now, does it have better graphics the PS2? Are they the same?

The current games that are released now for Xbox, like Red Dead Redemption, I think it is for Xbox, but, are they meant for the new Xbox ONLY, or they are meant for all released Xbox consoles?

Finally, does it connect directly to a tv, or do you need a DVD player or VCR type device. Does it need a newer TV, mine is pretty old, like older than me, and my parents can't get me a new one.

Thanks!

First off, it would probably cost more than the original $50 to fix the RROD, and it can't really be prevented, just give the system short breaks and don't leave it on when it's not in use. Second, the current games are only for 360, so be careful, but you can still go to some stores, like EB Games, to get the older XBOX games. I think that the PS2 has a bit better graphics, but the xbox is better for 3D graphics of it's time. And finally, you probably wont need a new tv, but if the xbox wont hook up to it, you most likely need to get a special jack because there isn't ports for the red, yellow and white cables, and they are about $10, but you probably have that problem.

Okay for your 1st ? yes it's typical. I had a original xbox some time ago and never got the red ring of death, but eventually (4-5 years after i had it) i started having problems with the disc tray so i traded it in. It really cant be prevented so i recommend you buy a service plan with it if that's possible and i dont know how much they cost. What happens in RROD is it's usually a major crash of a main piece in the xbox like a motherboard in a computer.

? 2 - yes it has better graphics than a ps2. Not to the point that your going to really notice a huge difference but some minor tweaks.

? 3 - specifically red dead redemption i think is meant for only xbox 360 and most other relatively new xbox games are usually for the 360 only. Try having someone bringing you to your local game store and browse for a little bit to see the games offered on the origanal xbox

? 4 - you need no dvd or vcr to play any xbox and if you could play a ps2 on that t.v. your talking about than you'll be able to play a xbox on it. to be more specific you need three small holes in your t.v. that are each colored. 1 is red 1 is white and 1 is yellow and it's okay if the t.v. is only has 2 holes because the red and white jack holes are for audio and you only need 1.

GOOD LUCK!!!! (sorry if i mispelledsome words)

P.S. - you might want to go mow a few lawns or do some other jobs to get a few more dollars to upgrade to a xbox 360, then you'll see some big graphics improvments.

-I don't remember any of my friends who had the XBOX original saying anything about RROD that is a problem your more likely to see in the 360.

-Graphic wise it came out after the PS2 and during the graphic war aswell so you can imagine it putting up a good fight against the PS2 in graphics. The PS2 has better graphics when it came to most RPG's, fighting games, hunting games, and platformers. the xbox had better graphics when it came to shooters, racing games, and stealth games.

-your third question is a bit confusing but basically yeah all games made for the 360 are made specifically for the 360 because almost all the 360 games are made for specifications the XBOX original can't handle.

-Dude not even the 360 requires a brand new TV granted a newer TV would make it look a little better but you don't need keep your old TV because the XBOX connects the same way that EVERY CONSOLE HAS UNTIL NOW, just a power cable and the 3-prong cable.

-also in addition to all that if you want to you might still be able to set up XBOX live for the XBOX.

1. No,rrod on original xbox isn't typical. It's best way of prevention is to not put it in a cramped up space. What happens is different depending on the number of lights. Infact I don't even know about rrod on original xbox.

2. Yes.

3. No new games are compatible with original xbox, just like no new games are for ps2. Simply put,why would they make a game for an outdated system, they expect you to have thrown it away!

4. If your tv does not have the audio & video plugins with the supporting line in/video channel then yes you would have to connect it through another device. UNLESS you get an adapter cable. They are usually cheap, and there is one for every system as far as I know.

side note: just save your money and spend 80-100 on a xbox 360 on craigslist, but have your parents buy it. I don't want some 14 year old kid getting killed by a stranger because of my advice. :)

Okay dude the rrod only happens to xbox360s. What happens is the system over heats and sodder melts, which will disconnect parts of the xbox360. The graphics are next gen. That means that yes typically they are better. The PS3 and xbox360 are both next gen systems. The old xbox is no longer in production, that means that there are no new systems and games being made. Yes Red Dead Redemption is for the Xbox 360 along with PS3 and PC. You can connect the xbox to a tv through the AV ports. These are the red white and yellow cords that will come with the xbox.

The original xbox(the one you want) is tough, but there are no new games for it(none have been made for it in 3 years) all the new game are for the xbox 360
