Can you play PS1 games on the PS2?

I really want play Final fantasy VII but i don't have a ps1 but i have a ps2 i was wondering if you can play ps1 games on the ps2.

The Sony Playstation 2 Can Play Sony Playstation 1 Games. But If You Want To Play A PS1 Or PS2 Game On A Sony Playstation 3 Forget It Sony Switched To Blue Ray Format.

Yes, you can... although I've heard that the PS2 Slim only has partial support. You should still be able to play most of them on a Slim, though.
