Dark Brotherhood quest won't start?

Question

So me and my brother have been playing Skyrim a lot. He's on PC and I told him he should join the Dark Brotherhood. I explained how to get in, he said he already did all that stuff, but when he wakes up, he's still in his house and the quest isn't started. He does have a Hearthfire house, we thought that's why, but we're not sure.
I have the game on PS3, and I joined the Brotherhood easily.
Is this some kind of bug?
Are there any other ways to get into the Brotherhood?
He really wants to join, so help us?

Right I suggest he waits a few days and a courier should appear with a letter with the dark brotherhood hand with the quotation 'We know' under it. after this sleep in a house that you own or are renting and the quest should start.

This problem may have been caused due to the ebony mail Dadric quest line which interferes with the companions as well. try taking off the armour and putting it in your draw at you house.

If you can't figure it out I suggest restarting the game. I know it is harsh but it may be the only fix.



if your brother was to be playing PC i would suggest using the command menu and force starting the questline.

Did the courier already find him with the "We know" note? In either case, have him try sleeping in an inn instead of his house.
