Although I have not ever played Rift, I am confident in this when I say that it will fail like any other game that has gone up against WoW. Rift is just another, same-concepts, MMO, and can't possibly even compete with WoW. I give it about 3 months before it starts to decline.

Also, if you're looking for a new MMO, I do have a suggestion. DC Universe Online. It is a next generation MMO with superior graphics and a combat system to make WoW look like ****. It costs about the same as WoW, with a down payment (one month included) of $50, and an additional $15 per month. I played it for a while, and it is unlike any MMO that I have ever seen. It is incredibly entertaining, and I highly recommend it. (just keep in mind that the game is only one month old, and still a bit buggy).

Hope this helps. Good luck, and have fun.

The Feel of RIFT is very very simaler to WoW, but don;t let that fool you, this one a very different game. The two biggest differences is RIFT's Class system, and the "Rifts" themselves. RIFT only have

4 Classes, Warrior, Mage, Rouge and Cleric. While this may put you off at first, each class has 8 "Souls" (WoW equivalent of your Spec), and you can use three Souls at one time, and all at once. It Takes some getting use to, but it add near limitless Class customization and some real flavor to the Game.

Next is the "Rifts" these are basically Out Door raids that will pop up in the different zones. They are a very Important part of the game as well, because most of the time, the Monsters that come through the Rifts are much stronger than Zone monsters, and if the Players do no come together to close the Rifts, they will soon overrun the Zones, killing NPC and even taking over Cities and Towns. Rifts start from the get-go and are in just about every Zone, you can get some really nice stuff from them too with a little luck (though mostly you'll just get Plainite (think WoW instance points [JP, VP ect ect ec]) and some one use Damage dealing items.

This might seem like a nice part of the game, but the problem is that the Rifts hit so often, that it can get very annoying, and as stated above, if they are not dealt with, then they can take over a Zone fast..

All in All, RIFT is not a WoW Clone, although it's absolutely got the WoW Flavor to it (somethings, like the Achievement system, can be plucked right outa WoW). If you like World of Warcraft, then RIFT is definitely something to try, but it's not so similar that you would get tired with it fast.

I just started Rift a couple of hours ago, and my first impression isn't anything spectacular. It honestly feels like a WoW knockoff gone bad. I'm going to give it awhile longer, not much choice considering we bought 3 month subscription to start off with, but I really don't see this game overtaking WoW by a long shot.

I'm finding myself sitting there going through the motions all the while hoping my husband suggests we go run a heroic or see if we can find a fresh BWD run or something. I'm more bored in Rift starting out a brand new game than I am sitting in Stormwind waiting on LFD to pop. I've got maybe 2 hours of playtime in Rift and I'm already having WoW withdrawals. So don't get your hopes up.

Oh and like another player stated, the Rifts are rather annoying. There's no premade group, they just pop up. At level 4 we reach our first little camp where we can train. Talking to trainer for the very first time and up pops a Rift. Didn't even know what the heck it was, but it wreaked havoc on the camp b/c go figure, everyone there just started like we did and had no clue what was going on.

alrighty, here is the biggest thing. alot of players are psychologically mind set to how wow is. so its hard for them to open their mind to the new MMO's comeing out. so whenever they see a MMO with leveling up, raids, and stuff of that matter, its automatically a wow clone. SO, i have been playing rift since it opened. and i got to say, its pretty awsome. very fun, their focus was not on stats and simplifying what wow is so 8 year olds can press 2 buttons to kill stuff, and with HUGE burst damage. rift has more of a vanilla/bc feel too it. which is great since it was the only expansion that was decent. its by no means a easy MMo to start. the pvp aspect of it is far superior to wow's since it was not a after thought of pve. i have not tried the PVE in rift yet, (raids). so i cannot comment on it. i have tried the pvp...man is it fun.. DC universe althought is a great game i agree it still lacks that certain flavor or addiction you crave. now the biggest thing on the rift vs wow issue is that wow has a HUGE fanbase of mentally locked monitor watchers. (ever found urself just stareing at the screen? wow is open, and nothin to do in it cuz ur bored). too be able to get millions of people to play a whole new MMORPG from one that has been around for 6 years, needless to say, is almost impossible. And to be honest, its prolly the best new MMO out so far. SO, i suggest trying it out, i found it very refreshing, slightly confuseing at first. but overall really really really good game.

WOW is already established, so it's not fair to compare rift with wow... Rift won't be a wow killer, but it will be a good alternative against wow... the soul system is actually really good IMHO...

WoW minimal approach necessities: Processor: Intel Pentium 4 1.Three GHz or AMD Athlon XP 1500+ memory: 1 GB Rift minimal process requirements: Processor: twin Core 2.Zero GHz or higher reminiscence: 2 GB I simply threw that up there for consideration. Rift is a bit more worrying in your hardware. That on my own is also ample to eliminate Rift. Regardless, i would advise WoW. I've played this sport for a pair years now, and it's very satisfying if it suits your variety of play. I hear Rift has many similarities to WoW, so if the gameplay of 1 isn't enjoyable for you, neither one will regularly be that pleasant. WoW has been around for years, and i'd assume at least a further couple of years out of this game. It has around 11 million subscribers, so it can be bought a great base that Blizzard won't abandon. I have been watching Rift for a whilst, and i'm cautious of trying it out each time soon. I've visible so many video games come out that do not particularly get wherever looking to be the next tremendous MMO. Rift has achieved good so far through many reviews, however I see mentions of various nation-states death off and different considerations with the game. I consider it's too early to inform, but with WoW there may be quite no playing involved. A friend of mine stopped taking part in WoW a at the same time back to try Rift for slightly, however he stopped simplest a month or so after picking out it up. Neil G - I have no clue what he is speaking about. Maybe he died or anything in game and threw his keyboard at his desktop. I might see it taking a toll then.
