Why Does My Sims 2 Game Always Crash?

I've been playing the Sims 2 for years and I have about 6 expansion packs. My fiancee recently rebuilt my computer for me so it now has a lot more memory, better video and sound cards, dual processors, etc, etc. Every game I own worked just fine before the rebuild and now things crash. The Sims isn't the only one that crashes but it was the first one to start crashing and is the game that crashes the most often and for (as far as I can tell) no reason. I don't keep things running in the background, my graphics settings aren't any higher than they were before the rebuild (and if they didn't crash then, they definitely shouldn't crash with a more powerful PC), and there are no viruses or issues with any of my downloads, I've scanned my computer countless times. Usually when the Sims crashes it not only closes the game but restarts my computer, sometimes just shuts it down. This is sort of a dual part question: why does the Sims crash and why do any of my games crash? Any ideas?

Ick, sounds bad. Here are some possibilities:



- bad fan (computer not cooling well enough - this happened to a friend of mine, exactly the same scenario)

- bad graphics card

- bad hardware in general (motherboard especially)

- hardware not compatible with games

- OS not compatible (Vista has problems running TS2)

- out of date video drivers

- corrupt download (won't show up by scanning for viruses, but this probably isn't the case if it's happening with other games)



My best guess is some piece of bad hardware. Unfortunately, the fix for that is to take the computer apart and put each piece of hardware into a computer that you know works; when it stops working, you've found the bad hardware.

Sims 2 would crash on me... because I used one too many cheat codes, lol. UM I learned my lesson from that. I had more issues with Sims 2 than I did with all the first Sims Expansion Packs. I learned the hard way that you can't have Sims and Sims 2 installed at the same time. So that's the only thing I could think of. Your Sims 2 could be crashing because you have all the other Sim games installed and they're all on the same hard drive.

I did install Sims 2 on my external hard drive and that keeps everything in order. But even then, I haven't installed any other Sims Expansion Packs. Too scared of losing any progress and too scared of game crashes and such.

You might want to check the heating inside your case. Heat can do a lot of things. If you didn't have a heating issue with the old computer, are you using the same case. Where is the computer located? The computer really needs to be in an open area so air can flow. Is the temperature in the house about 75? I got a new CPU and used the old case. I had to make sure the computer was breathing or my computer would restart or freeze up. I have 3 fans I pulling air in and two pushing air out. You might need more.

Had the same problem and it was the graphics card that was bad I've had to try several once for it to work Nvidia always works problem free with the sims 2
