Why make gaming consoles if game developers can just make gaming apps?

Hi. I was thinking about current video games and I was a bit curious about this. If apps are such a BIG thing now then why are game developers still making consoles? Why isn't Nintendo, Sony and other companies producing more gaming apps? Are gaming companies just producing consoles so they can stay in business?
Why buy a console if you can download an app for a game? Please help. Thank you.

Because there is still a massive market for consoles and console games.
A LOT of people don't like playing on tablets and phones. And theres enough of those people to continue making consoles.

I grew up in the 80s and NEVER had what I have now.
I played the games, but never had it at my fingertips.

app games really aren't that good compared to a console game. they're designed to be played in short bursts, not for long sessions. nintendo's app games for example do not compare to their console games. mario kart tour has nothing on mario kart 8, animal crossing pocket camp doesn't compare to new leaf or new horizons.

Unfortunately phones usually aren't powerful enough to run full multiplayer sandbox games, and any game with lots of graphics also can't be played on phones. To be short consoles are still being made because they are powerful enough to keep up with the new and better graphics of the games that are coming out you still have to update the console to keep up.

Because apps have limitations what they can do on smartphones, such as battery life and graphic capabilities.
Consoles and PC allows developers to do more. It would be near impossible to make a 3D RPG with a 14 hour story on a mobile phone, but can be done on a console.

Apps are *make do* with limited capability of telephones to keep the new age children entertained where they cannot play consoles.
Apps are rarely able to use the FULL programing of a proper Game.
