Question:
Got some questions about the game World of Warcraft?
2010-03-16 08:47:24 UTC
Even though I've been playing it for about 2 years, it's been on and off and I feel like a beginner still.
(I'm currently not playing it unfortunately) Okay here are the questions:

I've never been in an arena yet and was wonder how do I sign up for it and what happens in an arena?

Also I'm aware that for each class there are 3 different types of priest. There's discipline, holy and shadow. I think I'm a discipline. How do you ensure which one you become in the first place and could I change it now?

Also, I keep losing duels and it's driving me mad! I always ensure my armor is strong and i use the strongest spells that use up the least mana etc. Do you have any tips of what I should do first?

I'm a level 40- 50 something blood elf priest, herbalist/alchemist/fisher/cook/first aider girl :)

ah the priest. such and excellent and versatile class to play!

well first off don't worry about arenas yet. you wont be able to get into one that is worthwhile anyway until you hit level 80. at that point you will have to pay for a team charter (which you get to name) and then you'll have to find other players to play with (you can have a 2's team, 3's and 5's) try to find people you know will be playing at the same time as you as arena points allow you to purchase pvp gear etc.

as for what spec you are, check out your talent tree. the tree tabs are set up like this: discipline holy shadow.

how many points do you have in what tree? if you have most of your points in a specific tree then that is what spec you are. (my priests main spec is holy, her off spec is shadow)

try to focus all your points in one tree as your abilities are specific to your tree. painsuppressionn, grace and penance are talents in the disc tree. discpriestss are ideal main tank healers, as well as a great pvp spec. Holy is an excellent raid healing spec, with talents such as spirit of redemption, circle of healing and guardian spirit. Shadow is strictly a damage tree, so the only points you want in that tree for leveling (if you're leveling discipline) is spirit tap, which helps you to regen mana at a faster rate.

losing in duels is not a big deal. you just have to remember that fear is your best friend as a priest. what you need to learn to do is shield yourself pretty much constantly. shield before the duel starts to begin the cooldown. dot the other player with shadow word pain and devouring plague. (now this part depends on your spec) cast mind flay if you're shadow, penance if you're disc and smite if you're holy. when the player gets close enough to you cast your fear and re-shield yourself. if you're shadow cast mind blast and then mind flay, if you're disc cast smite and penance, if you're holy cast holy fire. this is a long casting spell but it does a large amount of burst damage as well as putting up a dot. refresh your dots if they're up. remember you have your little shadowfiend that you can use to replenish mana. (actually im not sure what level you get that pet at, im 80 on my priest so it's hard to remember =P) with your shield up you can cast SW:death without causing yourself damage because you're shielded.

it's hard to duel when you're healing spec.

you should post an armory link to your toon. it's easier to tell you if you're gear is the problem or if it's your dueling abilities >.<

good luck! see you in azeroth :)

1. Go to a major city, then to the battle master room. There should be a goblin (I believe it's the same for horde as it is alliance), then talk to him and pick either 2v2, 3v3, or 5v5. Since you're not a 70 or 80 yet, you don't need to create a team in order to play arenas. Inside the arena, you'll be facing against a different team, and the winners are the last standing team.

2. Under your talent tree, you'll see the 3 tabs that say Discipline, Holy and Shadow. You'll know what spec you are depending on where you've placed your talents. Since you're still leveling, i'd suggest going Shadow, since it's easier to solo level as Shadow unless you have a leveling partner, then a mix of Disc and Holy would work well.

3. It helps to know your class well, don't keyboard turn, and use key bindings. You'll notice the difference quickly once you stop keyboard turning and start using key bindings because you're able to react quicker to your opponent.

- arena, its basically a PVP method of playing where that you team up with 1,2 or 4 other players against the same number in your team, you can only do rated arena battles at lv 80 but you can do practice battles which hooks you up with a random person(s) as your teamate, and you can do this at the arena battle organisers that is usally in main cities near the battle masters and in the sewers in daleran

to check your spec, click on the talent tab (next to the pvp tab i think) and there should be 3 different talent trees (discipline, holy and shadow) depending which one you put the most talent points into (which you get by gaining a level) depends which spec you are,you can reset your talents at your classes trainer

1. You buy a charter, get people to sign it. Also, it is a small version of a battleground, with not a lot of space.

2. It depends on your talent tree. You can re-spec for 1g(increasing)

3. Look up some priest guides.

4. It only matters at level 80

Also, please do ignore the "ruins your life" comments.

i could heavily say that, no, $40 purely for a puppy in interest (that would not easily help your character; this is purely for seems) isn't properly worth it. in spite of the undeniable fact that, if the $40 is likewise to savour Blizzcon, you need to to spend the money whether there became into no in interest puppy to get. in case you incredibly like snow fall video games, then going to Blizzcon is probable an somewhat exciting element to do.
