Hi

I am just about to jump into world of warcraft for the first time and I was wondering whether it was worth installing the expansions before I start playing?

Do the expansions add a lot of content to the original games storyline, weapons etc?

Thank you.

everything is the same regardless of what expansions are installed, only difference is the level cap. anything available outside of the game like deluxe items, blizzard store or through the wow card game are never available in game. its the greatest game ever created, just buy them all and i highly doubt you would be unhappy with it but it does consume a bit of your life and you wont wanna even look at another game. dont play on a realm that they suggest , do research and play on a high population one. ignore timezone completely (means nothing)

The World of Warcraft expansions add new zones and a level cap for each one.

Burning Crusade raised the cap from 60 to 70 and added Outland a planet that is accessed by the Dark Portal. Wrath of the Lich King raised the cap from 70-80 and added Northrend, a continent north of Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor. Cataclysm raised it from 80-85, and added 5 new zones throughout Azeroth. The swirl in the center of the map is accessible, it is called the Maelstorm and it allows you to go through Deepholm. Everything else is pretty much the same. The gear (weapons and armour) is irrelevant as you change gear throughout the game; however, they added a feature that allows you to change the gears' look but keep the stats of the weapon in use. If you have a weapon that looks cool but it weak you can change it to look like the older weapon. You must have both weapons and cannot be interchanged. Swords cannot look like axes. Cloth gear cannot look like Plate gear. I wouldn't do it until I hit the level cap because it costs in-game currency. My advice try it out first because when Cataclysm came out I started to get bored with it already and many people have quit. The game play has changed variously and in my opinion, the fact that they just re-vamped the game instead of adding a whole new continent or planet and the fact that they are putting Pandaren Monks is telling me that the game is losing it's prime and the company will soon run out of ideas. A lot of time was wasted on that game. Now, I'd rather enjoy my life outside. Still, the best game I've played though.

Mists of pandaria is a joke, I quit after cataclysm was released. After hearing what they have done made me decide I would not be returning. Shame you won't be able to see what it looked like pre-cataclysm.

I would recommend trying just the first game, if you decide you not going to like it then you have wasted all that time installing. I believe it shouldn't change anything to do with the original game the only thing is you wont be able to do is get to outlands ect. which as far as I know only will effect you when your level 58 to 60 ready for burning crusade.

If you mean when the game is released and getting the special in game pets from the box. sadly no, it's a offer which only comes with the special editions so if you want the extra you better be prepared to pay £50 upwards I believe.

The expansions add to the storyline, add content and make changes. (i.e. Burning Crusade, the first expansion, for starters added Outlands and two new races to the game.) Although... even people without some expansions still have the patches that change things, they just can't access the new, higher level content without the expansion. (So, in example, no Worgen or Goblin race or new content over level 80 without owning Cataclysm.) People don't really ever get to see what it was like earlier in it's history so if you can afford to get the expansions there really isn't much reason not to.

ok, the following it is going :D you do not opt for to have all 3 to play. in case your starting up out for the first time, thats the feel i'm getting from thsi question. You wont opt for all 3. purely the unique to commence. The expansions are jus that, somethign that expands apon the unique. you gained't get 3, 30 day issues. in spite of what a previous poster suggested. I actually were playing for incredibly a even as. you receives 30 days loose apon registering your account. then you definitely will opt for to pay for both a million month, 3, or 6 month increments. the three and six comprise comparatively low-priced cuts. in case you opt for to draw close something else, enable me recognize :D purely to be conscious. in case you opt for to play the Dreanai (alliance) or the Blood Elves (Horde) you opt for to have the Burning campaign enlargement, the demise knight Hero classification is in undemanding words accessible to those with a pre modern lvl fifty 5 char on the server they play. it gained't erase the lvl fifty 5 to make it right into a DK so no concerns. This calls for Wrath of the Lich King and Burning campaign. Hit me up, in case you opt for to play, connect my server :D Hydraxis, i'm on the horde and at present lvl seventy 5 Blood Elf Hunter :)

Be careful. WOW is VERY addictive. My son played it constantly for a long time and when I had a go I could see why. Personally being a rubbish player I enjoyed the original game play but latterly it was too involved for me so I lost interest. However I still get occasional flashbacks from it and miss it at times, so play only at your peril. :(
