Can't get the ring of the beast in Skyrim?

Question

I'm supposed to get the ring of the beast from Clearpine Pond, but the marker just hovers on a tree and the ring isn't there. I've used the console to add the ring to my inventory and also to place it at me so I can pick it up. Neither worked. If I use the console to complete the whole quest I can't continue the side quest line and have to reload a save before the command. How do I complete the quest so that I can continue to do these side quests?

Have you been to Clearpine Pond before? It's possible that if you previously killed the creatures/enemies who are supposed to have the ring, the quest will bug out because their bodies are no longer there for you to loot. You would have to reload an earlier save and ask Feran for the quest again. The locations are radiant (random), so he should give you different locations.
