Why is it that COD4 and CODMW2 have been made by IW (Infinity Ward) but COD5 and COD BO BY TY (Treyarch)? Wouldn't it better to just have either IW or TY to be making the whole COD Franchise?
Thanks

Infinity ward aren't much any more and there may not be a cod MW3. Actavision fired the original funders of infinity ward, Jason West and Vince Zampella for breech of contract, saying they were self serving schemers. The reason being that they had been in contact with EA and Actavision were scared they might make their own company and rise up against them. After fired, EA took on West and Zampella as RE (Respawn entertainment) and by the first talk, telling people the making of RE, which doesn't Even have an office, 7 more workers at IW left and although they didn't say where they were headed most were the people who helped the firees make IW back in 2002.

So basically IW are close to ruined and West and Zampella are suing actavision for the MW name and

$30 million. If they win then they could possibly make a MW3 but maybe not. If Actavision win then we might see a very different MW3 by the falling IW.

Ok now for the main part: I'm not sure why IW and TY make CoD but I personally think TY are better. More brutal and realistic. Hope this helps :D

EDIT: LKS is partly wrong. IW did not make the originals. Yes they mda ethe original CoD classic but Treyech made CoD 2 for ps2 whilst IW made CoD 2 for the 360.

the truth is that infinity ward is the original designer team and they have been responsible for all the COD games since the first, treyarch on the otherhand are a company brewed by activision (which owns both companies) to produce work on the side games such as black ops and the wrongly called call of duty 5. Activision re currently attempting to create a new game developing team called Sledgehammer games to tackle the action adventure side of the game. Also since the crisis at activision in which they lost half of the IW staff, Treyarch are the lead designers of COD

"Wouldn't it just be easier if just IW or just TY owned the whole franchise?" (quote) they are unable to own the company as COD is technically owned by IW but controlled and funded by activision

Apparently Infinity ward and Treyarch have agreed to rotate production of the Call of Duty games between the two companies. Both companies own part of the call of duty franchise and the next game to be released, Black Ops, was produced by Treyarch, on account of Modern Warfare 2 being produced by infinity ward. Yes, I find this practice fairly bizarre, and it isn't very common within the software industry.

Treyarch was the traditional game developers, so they make the original games that are WW1 and WW2 games. But because they wanted to put a new spin on the franchise, Infinity Ward took over and made all the modern war games. So they switch off and on to make the different style games, between World War 2 and Modern Warfare.

They alternate I guess because they do the games each year and I think it would be too hard for 1 developer to make a big game like that each year. Cod 2,4,6 were made by IW and 3,5,7 were by treyarch ( dont know about 1 though)

I think they sell the company to each other, and once they make a game, they don't have enough cash to make a better one so they sell the company and it rotates like that.
