Question:
Why is my sims 2 freezing?

Alright, this is seriously beginning to bug the living daylights out of me. (Before I state the problem, in the computers defense: I am using .mds disk images and mounting them with DAEMON to install/play the game)

So I can install the program just fine, seamlessly if I mount all images at the same time. The first time I booted up the game, I really didn't have a problem with making the family, but when I tried to enter a lot (no matter what lot, what family), it would freeze on the "Loading [family name]" screen.

When that happened, I asked around and was told I should upgrade my video card driver (which I did) and update the latest patch (which, again, I did). So I did that after uninstalling and reinstalling Sims 2, and now the program will freeze while I'm making any character.

The computer I'm running is a Dell Inspiron 1525 32 bit, at least 70gb hd space, 2gb of memory. I have all of the system requirements fulfilled and it still freezes. Pleaseeeee help.

This is going to be a total stab in the dark and somebody already gave you some good troubleshooting tips.

Do you have an NVidia SLI graphics card? If the answer is "yes" then disable SLI. Freezing/crashing during the lot/family load screen is a well known problem for NVidia SLI cards and disabling SLI helps.

Otherwise, follow the troubleshooting tips from the other person.

I have this exact same problem. I have all the system requirements on my laptop.

I ran a disk clean up and got rid of at least 6 GB that my computer didn't need anymore.

Then, I removed of Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 because I didn't play it anymore.

And I also deleted some freeware programs that I didn't use.

Basically, run a disk cleanup and get rid of the stuff you don't use to free up more RAM and memory.

Mine doesn't freeze hardly at all anymore.

Sims 2 is an particularly great game. needs to bascially "take over" your computing device. Freezing is maximum possibly via different purposes working, no longer adequate RAM, no longer a stable adequate show adapter and prehaps your computing device in simple terms no longer being efficient adequate.

First check out the Sims2 website to see if there are any patches for that particular game. http://thesims2.ea.com/update/?pid=Help_...

There might be issues with the ability of your computer to handle the program. When I used to play my Sims2 on my laptop I found that it lagged and dragged and eventually froze completely because the computer just wasn't able to handle it.

I was able to work around it by going into the options menu (the "*" asterisk) on the menu screen when in neighborhood or family mode. From there I chose to minimize the quality of the graphics, sound, turned off shadows & reflections as well as the in game "vignettes" that play during special moments, I think they call it "special event camera" and the picture in picture option for special events. Once I set a lot of these options to the minimal setting it did run a bit better.

Check out the Sims2 Community BBS sometimes other users have great tips for improving game play.

Another option is to look into the specifications http://www.ehow.com/how_3054_find-much-m...

for your computer and compare them to the requirements for your game, http://thesims2.ea.com/help/detail.php?h...

you might need to upgrade your video or some other drivers. Or it could be your memory/ram and that isn't so easy or cheap to solve.

One possible quick fix to try is to try & clean up your hard drive. Using scan disk and defrag and the drive clean up tools to free up drive space. Clear your cookies and temp caches. All that stuff takes up space and can slow it down. Before doing this I recommend being very careful and following all instructions carefully so you don't wreck your comp. http://www.nanc.com/support/winhowto/sca...

If still experiencing trouble then you might also want to check out the Sims2 website for their link to the EA games help/support for Sims2. http://support.ea.com/cgi-bin/ea.cfg/php...
