Question:
How to make a good melee/healer in oblivion?

I tried making a melee/healer hybrid for oblivion but its not really working so well. I put restoration, blade, blunt, block, and 3 others that I can't remember right now as my major skills. I barely have any mana and the only healing spell I have right now is heal minor wounds (only heals 8). Any way for me to better this character or should I just start over?

Also, would it be better to make a bow-oriented character or sneaky-thief kind of character? Idk i'm just trying to have fun with this game but i'm having trouble understanding how to make a good character.

This character is most probably redeemable, it'll just take a little work.

To boost your magicka, you'll need to put some focus on your Intelligence stat. Now, one thing I've noticed while playing the game is that if you use the skills ruled by a particular stat a lot, when it's time to level up, you'll get some bonus points to said stat. In the case of Intelligence, you'll need to work on Alchemy, Conjuration, and Mysticism. Out of those three, if you picked none of them to start out with, Alchemy is the easiest (and definitely the most lucrative).

As for your spell problem, better healing spells can be bought in Chorrol Chapel and Anvil Chapel (among other places), and many other Restoration spells can be found in the Anvil Mages Guild.

And to address your other question, my brother has made a fantastic character who combines bows and sneaking. Very fun. =)

O my friend i am a master at that game what you need to do is just join the mages guild gain access to the main place (lol i havent played in a long time got to easy (^-^) ) after you get in there make a heal spell make it one second with the weakest power and just keep using it you restoration skill aka healing will go up fast o and healing is one of the hardest skills. Takes forever with out that little trick if you need and more advise messege me.

As for the thief its a great idea but make sure you have a dagger just in cast you are not set on a good spot and they charge you. Uhh other than that you should be good have fun.

I always choose a custom class, it depends on what you want your guy to end up like. I do know that with major skills, they will still be low you have to use heal minor wounds as much as possible, and if you want your character to be a powerful melee attacker then you need to fight with only your hands as much as possible.

In my opinion you should start over, being good with heavy armor increases both light and heavy armor, and the most powerful weapons in the game are swords. If you want your guy to get a jump start on his stats and level ups, go to the Imperial City and go to stores that are associated with the type of skill you want to increase. If you want restoration to go up, go to a magic store and there is usually someone who will train you in exchange for money.
