I like to watch movies on my Xbox 360, I have tried streaming straight from my laptop however it has to load and sometimes looses connection.

I have 19GB worth of movies on my Hitachi 2.5" External Hdd, and my Xbox will not recognize it as a portable device!. I have tried changing the format to exFat (which is the only other option vista would give me) and it is still not recognized.

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

i'm not sure on the rules of X-Box 360 but PS3 only recognizes external HDD if there are formatted FAT32.

exFAT is only vista based so you're going to have to format to FAT32. if that doesn't work consult 360 dedicated forums on this. believe me all your questions can be answered if you search on google.

don't listen to harley i found out that yes you do have to format to FAT32 but your HDD must be less than 32GB otherwise you need to download a partition software called "partition magic" in order to format to FAT32.

i gave you the link on the source.

They won't. They're specifically MADE that way so that you'll spend the extra money and go out and buy their bigger hard drives. Look at it like this: why would Microsoft spend probably millions or even billions to go through all the trouble of developing and implementing different production models and assembly lines for different sized hard drives, and then make it EASY for you to just use an external hard drive instead for half the price that Microsoft doesn't get any money from instead? Have you EVER known Microsoft to not try and squeeze an extra buck out of you?

"The mark-up on Xbox hard drives is significant; the current 120 GB model clocks in at $150. For the same price, you can score a brand new Western Digital USB 2.0 500 GB external hard drive, and for only twenty bucks more, you can take home Amazon's top-rated external hard drive, Iomega's Prestige 1TB monster (yeah, a terabyte, or 1000 GB). Ouch."

There ARE ways around this, connecting it to a PC on a LAN is probably the easiest, but you can also find drivers online that allow you to bypass the proprietary restrictions that Microsoft places on the console.

I had a HDD External Drive and it tried to recognise it as a MP3 player, Xbox don't have the Driver recognition nailed, i'd suggest phoning Support or Mailing them, if you provide the exact details of your HDD External they can tel you whats wrong and possible fixes.
