Question:
Which Nancy Drew game is, in your opinion, the longest?

Over the years, I've lost all of my old Nancy Drew games, (both physically and from computer crashes), and I have to satisfy myself with the newer ones that have been coming out for the past couple of years, (White Wolf of Icicle Creek, Legend of the Crystal Skull, The Phantom of Venice, The Haunting of Castle Malloy, and Ransom of the Seven Ships, among a few older versions that I buy off of the Internet, like Secret of the Old Clock, Last Train to Blue Moon Canyon, and the oldest being Treasure in the Royal Tower.)

Unfortunately, if there's one thing that I've noticed about the new games is that they end rather abruptly, especially in cases like Ransom of the Seven Ships, I guess because there is absolutely no real exploration, just a miniature mark to tell you where Nancy is on the particular road and medium to which you're travelling, something they got from Castle Malloy; CM is disappointing in that way, but it was much more interesting than Ransom in what you got to learn and the various characters you encountered.

Now, I'm wanting to buy another game, an older one, preferably. One where you actually get to GO places and learn new things, and where there's a lot of secret passageways and things. I was thinking along the lines of Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake, The Secret of Shadow Ranch, maybe even The Final Scene, and, God forbid, Secret of the Scarlet Hand, (it was like a really boring geographical history class to me, and it seemed like every color of every scene was either adobe or orange, even outside of the museum, but at least it took forever to see any action.)

If you could tell me which of the ones that I just mentioned are the longest (not necessarily the hardest, though; I go through most puzzles very easily, but what I'm really looking for is dialogue and revealing characters and an exciting and always-changing plot. For example: Going through a museum and looking at artifacts all day and talking to the flamboyant Sinclair guy, that sometimes-helps curator, that Spanish man that always talks of vengeance and utter hatred for everyone, and that middle-aged restorer with the asthma problems would make me go crazy in real life; I wasn't surprised Sonny quit.)

Anyway, sorry for making this so long, but just tell me the longest and most in-depth/revealing game you can think of. Since I haven't played my old games in quite a while, I can't really pick from my memory.

Blackmoor Manor was one of my very favorites, and it took me one of the longest. It has LOTS of puzzles (so maybe that would go faster for you) and a TON of secret passage ways (I like those too!). The plot was a little iffy, but I still really enjoyed it.

Ghost Dogs was pretty good. I got stuck for a while on something really easy, so it took me a little longer than usual. The plot is decent, and it's pretty interesting. Lot of tunnels :)

Sorry, I've never played the Final Scene. (The book was extremely good though)

Shadow Ranch had a decent plot, and lots of places for exploring, I thought. I don't remember it taking me very long to finishm but it has been a while.

Personally, I liked the Scarlet Hand. The plot was pretty dumb, but you did learn a lot about the Mayans and stuff. And Sonny was funny. It was pretty easy and fast, though, for me.

I would recommend Danger by Design. It's a newer one, and the plot is a lslightly weird, but over all, it's one of my all time favorites. It took a while, too, probably one of the longest. You got to go to lots of places around Paris, and had lots of jobs to do and things to get. Plus Sonny's back :). Oh, and the whole history/ backstory of the game is pretty interesting, too.

The Haunted Carosel was so easy and boring, I won't even talk about it.

Kapu Cave took me a while to beat, but the plot was horrid and it was kinda weird switching off being a Hardy Boy. It was not very exciting.

Hope all this ranting has helped. I love Nancy Drew games!

Out of the ones you have mentioned I would go with Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake. It's a good length and challenging as well. Love it. Kinda scary, lots of different places to go.

the Final Scene is pretty short. But it's good.

The Secret of Shadow Ranch is really good and a good length, too. But it has tedious chores (I feel that you wouldn't like that) - another one of my faves

One you didn't mention is the Curse of Blackmoor Manor which is very lengthy and the hardest IMO. another favorite! Lot of secret passageways.

Also Danger on Deception Island is good!

You said Treasure in the Royal Tower you already downloaded, and that is my all time favorite game, btw :)

P.S. I don't like the newer games as much (danger by design is short-but it's decent, creature of kapu cave is SO short-my least favorite)

Ugh, I can't rant enough about how much worse the games have gotten. I thrive on interesting phone characters, people to chat to, interesting characters, snooping--all of that! The new ones are puzzle...after puzzle...after puzzle. The puzzles are hard, but the cases are boring.

Of the ones you listed, I'd go with The Final Scene or Secret of Shadow Ranch. Both have awesome characters, plots, anda few nice surprises. Both have puzzles that I consider challenging (try the music note puzzle on Final Scene on senior level--stumped me for days!) and really cool places to be.

Downsides would include Final Scene's graphics not being quite as good (though still bearable) and mode of transportation. In Final Scene you stay in the theater (though it's creepy and awesome). In Shadow Ranch, you click on maps, but the scenery is cool. Both really great games--on my list of favorites.

I prefer curse of Blackmoor manor. It both has a great twist and can send a shiver down your spine. This is just my opinion. I also liked message in a haunted mansion but its completely up to you which you want to get.
