Well after analyzing all the Pokemon I have chosen.

If you chose Chimchar, he is great for someone who needs some help.

Shinx, is good for any bird and water Pokemon.

Zubat, ok just don't laugh but hes actually pretty good. Raise him and he could be a great asset.

If you chose Turtwig, I hated him because of his ground type. Though he gets to resist Poison.

Bidoof, when he evolves he is ok but he can use Flamethrower, Thunder and other moves that people don't recognise him as ok.

Geodude, he resist fire and poison so he can help alot in it.

If you chose Piplup, to me hes the best because, well one he can use more attack moves, two hes a peguin! Oh and he gets a steel type!

I like Shinx same reason for Chimchar.

Budew, I like him! and for and Electri types he resits it.

Starly! I don't know mostly because of his flying type moves to get rid of Grass.

Machop, for unknown reason! I just like him...

I made a team for all.

Inferanpe

Any water type I like Vaporeon, and Gastrodon

Rotom, Frosslas, or Drifloom

Umbreon, Skorupi

Lucario, Medicham, Machoke

Gabite, Dragonight.

Empoleon

Leafeon, Roserade, Carnivine

Arcanine, Rapidash, Flareon, Magmar, Houndoom

Lucario, Medicham

Glaceon, Frosslas, Galie

Togekiss, Starapter, Alratria

Torterra hes good for any team but just make sure to have,

Flying

Water/Fire (He resist both but there still good to have.)

Dark

Ice

Dragon

I hope all of this helps because I have played them and made diffrent teams to see the most helpfulest. And those help more then you'll think! Happy Gaming!

Well, when people ask question like these, I don't go into specifics. What I do is I take my top 6 favorite types, and find the best one of each type in the generation I'm playing. In this case, it would be Generation 4. For starter Pokemon, I pick the one with the best stats, but one I would also like to use. But I also have a thing for Eevee and it's evolutions.

Here was my Platinum team:

1. Lapras

2. Infernape

3. Leafeon

4. Jolteon

5. Palkia (After main storyline of the game).

6. Steelix

I hope this helps. I also like to base my teams off of Red's and other champions.

Make your team here: http://pokemon.marriland.com/diamond_pearl/team_builder/

It shows your chosen team's weakness but not the offenses.

Choose movesets that cover as many types as possible

A good starter in my opinion is Chimchar. Choosing Chimchar will give you a smooth play throughout the game. However, there are some instances where Chimchar won't be your best bet like in the Pastoria Gym (Water-types)

If you're new to pokemon, I highly recommend catching Starly and Shinx as they are both handy and appear very early. If you have enough patience, try your luck against a Gible after the second Gym battle.

Hope I helped :D

My final team in Platinum was:

-Typhlosion

-Salamence

-Porygon-Z

-Roserade

-Vaporeon

-Roserade

Thats an awfully unoriginal team... Is that quite the one pkmn your going to use within the entire sport...U must wait unless atleast the 7th badge before finishing your workforce as alot of the cooler pokemon come afterward in the sport...

There is no 'best' team, it all depends on your play style and personal preference. A lot of people pick Infernape because it's ridiculously overpowered in 4th gen, but the other two starters have lots of fans too.

Personally, I went with the following team:

Torterra (obtained as Turtwig): Bulky, hard to take out, and learns Earthquake naturally

Staraptor (caught as Starly): Fast and hard-hitting with STAB Aerial Ace, Close Combat and Return.

Luxray (caught as Shinx): Used to take out water types, since I save Torterra for Rock/Ground Pokemon. He killed Cynthia's Milotic despite it nearly killing him with Mirror Coat.

Gastrodon (caught as Shellos): The damage sponge of the team, and destroyer of Fire types.

Houndoom (caught as Houndour): Ridiculously fast and one of my top special sweepers. She singlehandedly wrecked 1/3 of Cynthia's team.

Froslass (caught as Snorunt, evolved with Dawn Stone): My other top special sweeper. I got her specifically for Cynthia's Garchomp and I never regretted it. She managed to wipe out half of Cynthia's team all on her own.

If you're looking for the best starter Pokemon, all of them are excellent choices. I believe that the 4th Generation games have the best and most useful starters; Empoleon's secondary Steel typing gives it rather effective defenses, Torterra gets powerful STAB Earthquakes, and Infernape's movepool is stupidly huge. I tend to lean towards Infernape (Chimchar) as my starter mainly because Fire-types are somewhat rare in the Gen IV games, but all of them are good choices.

As for individual Pokemon to look for early in the game, here are some options:

STARLY: Starly has good Speed and power early on, learning Wing Attack at L9 (one of the more powerful moves for that stage in the game). Starly and its later forms are useful throughout the game, especially once it evolves into Staraptor and learns Close Combat.

GEODUDE: Geodude's Rock and Ground moves are very useful for dealing with early game foes, notably the Flying, Rock, and Bug types that are so common early on.

SHINX: Shinx is a decent early-game fighter, but one that becomes less useful as the game goes on. Shinx's Spark technique (learned at L13) is useful in dealing with the common Water and Flying types. However, look at replacing Shinx in the midgame; Shinx's power drops off dramatically as the game goes on.

MACHOP: Machop has a ton of power for the early game, and its ability to deal with Normal and Rock-types is very useful early on. However, if you are unable to trade, Machop will not reach its final form, losing its offensive luster in the midgame.

GOLBAT: After you receive your first badge and the ability to use Rock Smash, head down to the lower level of the Oreburgh Gate. Golbat are rare, but can be caught here. If you can get your Golbat's happiness level up quickly enough, it will evolve into Crobat, giving you a lightning-quick, final-form Pokemon before you even reach the 2nd gym.

BUDEW: Budew is a rather ordinary Grass-type at first glance, but its versatility and Special offense set it apart from Torterra. Roserade, Budew's final form, can serve as either an offensive, defensive, or support Pokemon depending on its moveset.

PONYTA (if Chimchar is not chosen): A rather ordinary Fire-type, but one of the few you can get before the midgame.

PSYDUCK (if Piplup is not chosen): A rather ordinary Water-type, but one of the few you can get before the midgame.
