Hello,
My favorite war game right now is Battlefield Bad Company 2. There are multiple vehicles (Helicopters, Tanks, Humvee's etc.) and there are like 24 people to a game. Also, there are add ons to the game that are very cheap such as BFBC2:Vietnam, and they are also very good.
The best part about the game however,
DESTRUCTIBLE environments! Basically if a sniper is hiding in a house, you can call in a mortor on him and the roof will come off. Or, if you need cover, shoot the side of a building with a grenade launcher and run inside. Also, you are assigned to a four man squad at the start of each match. The squad guys are great, and often you will find yourself added the guys to your friends list after the game.
If you have Xbox Live, it is like $30 on games on demand. If you have a computer, it's on steam for $14 untill January 2nd.
MOVIES AND BOOKS:
Many people think that all these movies and games are really realistic, but seriously, the way combat is going now; it's just sitting on your *** all day in the Kundahar with a firefight from 500 yards every couple of weeks.
These are both modern, but they are actually quite realistic:
Book: WAR (Sebastian Junger): About men from the 173 Airborne (US Army, from Vicensia Italy) and their journey in Afgansitan. The book was written a couple years ago, and one of the guys in the valley with them was mentioned in the book a few times, his name is Giunta, he was recently given the Medal of Honor a couple months ago. Sebastian Junger is a journalist and he actually traveled to the Kornegal with them and was involced in a few firefights. He spent 8 months in a remote outpost in the middle of the Kornegal, the first outpost to have recieived a 100% causilty rate since WWII. The book is by far my favorite book. And I've read ALOT of war books.
Movie: Jar Head. Realistic. It points out that many young men never even get to fight, and that war simpily is "The Suck". It follows a Marine Scout Sniper through operation Desert Shield (part of Desert Storm, 1991.)
Documentary: Restrepo. The documentary that followed the book WAR. Very good and funny as hell.
Series: The Pacific and Band of Brothers. Great series, both are on netflix. You will get lost in the series and imagine yourself there.
