I want to start playing Final Fantasy games. I keep hearing a lot of good things about them. Where do I begin? There are so many titles I have no idea where to start. I've been told it is not necessary to have played all of them to understand the story. The consoles I own are playstation 2 playstation 3 and nintendo ds.

I started with the first one when it first came out and played most of them.

It's not too important which order you play them in, except maybe being disappointed with the graphics if you go backwards.

I'd say start with 7. If you like that, then try some of the others.

It all depends on your taste. Each Final Fantasy game has it's own separate story, so it doesn't matter at all where you begin.

On the Nintendo DS, you can play Final Fantasy III or IV, which are both good. Final Fantasy III is strictly turn based, while Final Fantasy IV has an Active Time system where you can attack at any point (without waiting for your turn) and waiting for a bar to fill up before you can attack again. Final Fantasy IV has more of a story to it, the third one doesn't really have a moving plot like the fourth.

On the PS2, I would suggest Final Fantasy X. This one also features the Active Time System, I believe. It got many good reviews, and where your finished there is a sequel to it. I heard it has a good story and it also features a mini game called "Blitzball", which is like the soccer of that particular fantasy world. But its played in a sphere of water.

On the PS3, start with Final Fantasy XIII. I think this uses Active Time also, but I'm not sure. Also had good ratings, and you should get this one if you're looking for a next-gen Final Fantasy. This one has a sequel that will be coming out soon.

If you're also interested in the spin-offs, then check the Wikipedia page. I only know about the numbered series.

I played it in the order of 9, 8, 7, 1, 2, 5, 6.

It doesn't really matter which one you play first. I found that my favorites were 8 and 9. They are for the regular playstation, but I heard that you can play regular playstation games on the ps2, and that you can download the final fantasy games on the ps3.

It doesn't matter which you play first really, BUT I recommend X (10), just because thats where most huge final fantasy fans started, including myself. It is for ps2, there is also a X-2, which is continuing where X left off. (Just an FYI: a XIII-2 will release jan. 31,2012)

properly as well very last delusion X and X-2, each recreation is its personal storyline. so that you could start everywhere you pick. yet for my section those are how I rank them. 6 > 10 > 9 > 4 > 8 > 7 > a million and a couple of > (10-2) > 12 I truly have not began to play 13, and 11 is a internet roleplaying recreation, not a platform recreation. (many human beings could positioned 7 earlier all different video games, yet me persoanlly did not look after 7)

Play Final Fantasy 7, it's the best one, my opinion of course!

It's on the PS1, but you should be able to play it on the PS2/3.

if your a fan of classic ff games do yourself a favor don't play ff12 it'll ruin all your knowledge about the entire franchise but i agree with Jack Ferrel ff VII is good start from there then go to the Nintendo Ds one

It doesn't matter which you start with. I recommend 8, 9, X, or XIII.
