10 reasons why Sony’s PlayStation 3 (PS3) is better is better than Microsoft’s Xbox 360

• PS3 has FREE online play!

If, when PS3 first came out and you complained about the high prices of the PS3, then you would also be bothered about the fact that you have to PAY to play online with Xbox 360.

• The new PS3 (PS3 Slim) is $299, that's cheaper than the Xbox 360 Elite. (EVEN BEFORE you BUY wireless add on and play and charge kit). Why did Microsoft release an Xbox 360 “Elite”? Because they needed to compete with PS3 and though a bigger HDD would do the trick.

• Xbox 360 had a 1 year lead to PS3, and PS3 trails by 6 million units.

But wait, first, the Xbox 360 figure could be distorted, because; Xbox 360 failure rate is 54.2% (http://blog.seattlepi.com/microsoft/archives/176741.asp) or 23.7% (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6216691.html) (By the way, the PS3 failure rate is 10%). I found this on the Wikipedia page Xbox 360 technical problems (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_360_technical_problems). Hmmm, just a thought, why isn’t there a PS3 page like this? Anyways let’s take the lowest failure rate of 23.7%. When an Xbox 360 breaks it needs to be replaced. So, 30 million minus 23.7% is 22.89 million! (Do the math; if the failure rate was 0% there would be less 23.7% of Xbox 360’s out there).

But let’s assume it was an accurate measurement.

-30 & 24 million units... 1 year?

-PS3 came out in the economic crisis (and PS3 was still more expensive, 6 million units difference aint looking so bad after all).

-Admit it! You know Xbox 360’s sold so many units because people can chip it and play pirate games.

• PS3 has BLURAY! We can fit more data on our discs! (5 times more). So there’s better GRAPHICS! And if you think you can't see a difference in game quality, look again!

But let's assume there is no difference; we can still play HIGH DEFINITION 1080p movies!

• (I love this one) A 120GB Xbox HDD is MORE expensive than a 1TB HDD on a PS3!

• The Xbox 360 controller just plain sucks. Why you ask, because you can’t play and charge at the same time! Unless you BUY an extra. Oh, and PS3 can have up to 7 controllers connected wirelessly.

• How do you like that brick attached to your Xbox 360? And how did you feel when you found out you had to BUY an (EXPENSIVE) add on for wireless? What happened to that extra “HD DVD” add on you could buy? It died when PS3’s BLURAY won!

• PS3 has Gran Turismo! And we can link our PSP to it! At this point some obsessed Xbox 360 fanboy will say, “So? Xbox will have to release a mobile gaming device soon. I hope.” And I say, “WE”VE BEEN HAVING IT!”

• Xbox 360, developed by MICROSOFT! Please tell me why MICROSOFT couldn’t put an internet browser in it!? And why they make you PAY to use Twitter and Facebook (through Xbox Live).

• PS3 pretty much outnumbers Xbox 360 in processing power and hardware, along with everything just mentioned. PS3 is brilliant for GAMING, BLURAY MOVIES, and HOME MEDIA PLAYER or just plain simply for its looks. ;).

• PS3 wins, Xbox 360 loses. And Xbox 360 doesn’t even deserve a capital.

used this for another post but it works here

ok so im a ps3 owner have been since release date but im also looking to buy a 360 but anyways on to your question umm well ive played both consoles and if you can only get one id go with the ps3 especially with the new slims that have a 120 gb hard drive its online store is decent and also free although it does a have a subscription service called qore for only i think 25 bucks a yr it cheaper to replace the hard drive than the 360. a terabyte will only run you 100 dollars on the ps3 idont know how much the 360 ones are but they are more expensive and not as much storage to my knowledge anyways while i will say the 360 has more games the ps3 has a really good selection of games and upcoming ones as well it has wifi built in to it bluetooth as well great placeto store your music and pics... the picture slide show and program to manage it is really neat as mention in other post comes built in with a blue ray drive which is good if u like things in high def plus it more for your money... has trophy system similar to achievements really pointless yet addicting lol you can also save movies on to it go web browsing and watch youtube also stream tv shows from different websites not sure if the 360 can do that.. well im sure im missing a few things but from what i can think of at this moment thats it so good luck

wanna add that charlie below me has allot of old information and incorrect prices and bad information for example hd-dvd is obsolete blue ray won the format wars ages ago

Things are slightly more complicated these days however. Console makers are taking different approaches to designing their products; some go for hardcore processing power, others focus more on online gaming. We already have a heated debate going on in our forum about which console is better, PS3 or XBOX 360.

I thought it would be a good idea to ask my friend, who is a lead programmer for a large gaming company that produces games for both PS3 and XBOX 360. He has also worked on PS2, XBOX 1, and PC games in the past 6-or-so years. Obviously, considering his position working with both consoles and both Sony and Microsoft, he doesn't want to step on any toes, so wishes to remain anonymous at this time. Here are his thoughts on the subject:

PS3 vs. XBOX 360

Being a video game developer (I develop for both, Playstation 3 and XBOX 360) people ask me almost daily which platform I think is better. These are my personal feelings, in no way does this reflect my employer.

Short answer: XBOX 360.

Long answer: Price, performance, visual quality, game selection and online support. I think the XBOX 360 wins in every category.

Price: This is obvious; the XBOX 360 core is only $299. The PS3 is around $499 for the 20GB version. It comes with a hard drive, but you dont need a hard drive to enjoy a lot of great games on the 360 so I think its fair to compare both core systems.

Performance: On paper, the PS3 is more powerful. In reality, its quite inferior to the 360. Without getting into too many details, the three general-purpose CPUs the xbox360 has are currently FAR easier to take advantage of than the SPUs on the PS3. I suspect a few years down the road some high budget, first party PS3 exclusive titles will come out that really take advantage of the SPUs and do things the XBOX 360 cant, but I dont think the console is worth buying based on this speculation (for some it will be though, we'll have to wait and see how these games turn out).

Graphics: The XBOX 360 is a clear winner. The GPU is more powerful. It has more powerful fillrate, and far more pixel and vertex processing horsepower. Part of the reason is their choice of memory, and architecture of pixel and vertex procesing. I cant get into details but the same vertex shader will run much slower on the PS3 than the XBOX 360. The 360 also has a clever new way rendering high definition anti aliased back buffers. To accomplish the same effect on PS3 is prohibitively expensive. For this reason I think many games will have no choice but to run in non-HD resolutions on the PS3 version, use a lower quality anti aliasing technique, or do back buffer upscaling. The end result in all cases is going to be noticeably worse image quality.

Game Selection: The XBOX 360 has a huge head start here. 1 year is an eternity in gaming. Almost all multi-platform developers have made the XBOX 360 their primary platform due to timing of release-to-market, this means the games will look and perform better on the 360. The PS3 versions will be ports of the 360 versions. (The opposite was true for XBOX 1 vs. PS2). The XBOX 360 is also far faster to develop for due to better development tools (massively popular Visual Studio .NET vs. proprietary, buggy PS3 compiler and debugger), better documentation, and easier architecture (3 general purpose CPUs vs. 8 specialized processors that require DMA). Timing has also caused all next-gen middleware developers to make XBOX 360 their primary platform, and they will add ps3 support as needed. This support will probably be inferior to the XBOX 360s due to manpower and more importantly, demand. Its this catch-22 now that will continue to drive the 360 forward and hold PS3 back.

The other obvious point here is that right now the Xbox360 already has a very impressive line-up of titles on store shelves; the ps3 just launched, and has virtually nothing of interest. Also, many 360 games are already discounted. PS3 games are all full price since it just launched.

Live: Microsofts online support with XBOX1 was phenomenal. They built in-house experience, user base, facilities, $$ commitment from executive level (since it proved successful), and most importantly, feedback from 100,000s of XBOX Live subscribers. Playstation 2s online support sucked. They are now playing catch-up, trying to emulate Xboxs model. But they had their hands tied just trying to make the PS3 work, it was incredibly ambitious (blu-ray etc.). I havent seen it yet, but I seriously doubt the quality will be anywhere to the level of XBOX 360.

HD Content: The PS3 comes with one built in (blu-ray). The XBOX 360 offers HD-DVD as an add-on for $200. You probably dont care about HD-DVD right now. But you will soon (The quality between DVD and HD is comparable to VHS vs DVD, if you have the right TV) so I suggest paying attention to the war thats begun. There are two formats: HD-DVD and BLU-RAY. Basically if you rent a BLU-RAY DVD from Bockbuster, it

I honestly just enjoy Xbox more. I'm not gonna dis ps3 because they have great games and the blueray is sick. I just prefer xbox titles/controls/interface, more than I do sony's.
