Won't those who haven't ever played World Of Warcraft before Cataclysm miss out completely on all of the previous states of the game? My friend was talking about Cataclysm and I was wondering about all those who are just now about to purchase the game. Will they just miss out on the past versions of World Of Warcraft and never get to experience it? And will the storyline to Cataclysm be easy to follow for newcomers or is it connected to the old stories from past expansions?

Yeah, the old world content that you talk about was actually really boring. Collect x amount of boar livers and slay an x amount of.... warthogs. It was very dry, and the leveling process was feared by all. lol. Now the quests have been streamlined and offer new storylines, amusing all. They use phasing content where surroundings actually change, and they give you some pretty cool stuff like a boat in Thousand Needles.

Suffice it to say, everyone will be able to follow the questlines, but if you really want to get into it, read up in some lore, it's amazing. Plus there's some nostalgia for the veterans seeing things change, like the silithid caves in 1k needles and Mulgore's streamlined starter area

TL DR version

Yes previous quests will be gone but not missed

Yes previous version is gone

Yes everyoen will get it, it won't be fun if they dont.

Let me just clarify. They will have Cataclysm on top of all other expansions. You can't only play one. And it doesn't have its own specific storyline. It adds to the existing one. Thus all the expansions add on to the original game. The expansions aren't a brand new game, they add new items, new quests, new area's, sometimes new races and classes. When people buy Cataclysm, thinking its going to be a new game, they will start in the same place at the same level as the first game, (if they chose a race that existed in the previous expansions) and they will progress in the same way as the previous versions, but with the additions of the expansion. The main difference is when you reach the level cap of the previous expansion. Then everything is completely new as the levels you are now trying to reach did not exist before and so before there was no place or creatures to quest in/against to level up. The current level cap is 80 from the Wrath of the Lich King expansion. It will be 85 after Cataclysm adds to the game. The method of getting up those 5 levels will be added brand new as Cataclysm. Cataclysm is also including new instances, one of which is fighting the big boss, key to Cataclysm, which is where the storyline you asked about from Cataclysm comes in.

If I've missed anything out and if i sounded a bit condescending, sorry, and I hope I helped, :)

Ignoring the idiot down below, the idea of what your saying is completely upsurd. I have only the Burning Crusade and I can upgrade to Lich king at anytime now. Also this will not ruin the story of Azeroth at all. Sure the land will change but by chance the main storylines of the story will never change due to the original thoughts that made it happen. There is a reason why WoW is still in the buisness, due to smart combat system and a engaging story. Blizzard isn't going to get rid of what made them get here today...there is a reason why WoW is the top MMO in the world today. And the storyline is complex enough for old timers to follow and look into but simple enough for even the biggest noob to understand what's happening. Now that Blizzard is making Cinematics for some main quests it will explain the story in a much more.....simple way but much more epic. You can stop CATCLYSM FOOL!!!
