Can you play Japanese Playstation 1 games on an American ps1?

I know that the only real problem is the language barrier, but that isn't a big deal for me. I was just wondering if there was any kind of coding issue that preventing playing other countries Playstation games on a US console.

no you can't. if you really wanted to, you would have to get a converter chip for the ps1. i had one in my ps1 that i got from korea. and that was the only way to play those games.

Coding issue? Absolutely. Just about EVERYTHING is region locked these days, barring the PSP and PS3. Anything else, you're going to need to (won't go into it here as it's illegal).
