First off to the guy that mentioned pushing back the 360 verison... what are you smoking? You do realize that the game was released on both systems on the same day, right? And 95% of the problems are on the PS3? Did you also know that the 360 will have 2 exclusive downloadable packs add to a reported 10 hours each? Microsoft shelled out $50 million for that. Must be nice to have that much cash. Maybe free online play is not what it's cracked up to be.

Instead of being a diehard Sony, try being informed of what both systems offer. Some games are better on the 360 where others are far better on the PS3.

Anyway, Take Two made a temp fix and it's posted on Gamespot's website. Here I'll post it for you all. I wouldn't do what they say, I wouldn't want to lose my game save unless I had little time invested. I'll wait to buy it when the fix has been released.

Take-Two suggests PS3 GTAIV fix

Publisher's tech support department unveils an elaborate 12-step program to address frequent freezing by deleting saves, disabling online and rumble support; 360 remedy still MIA.

Reports of Grand Theft Auto IV freezing up have been circulating message boards since the game's launch Tuesday, but Rockstar Games has been tight-lipped as to the reason or the remedy, passing off requests for public comment onto Sony. While the majority of complaints appear to be coming from PlayStation 3 users, Xbox 360 owners with glitch-ridden game experiences have also voiced their frustrations online.

Take-Two representatives may not have been willing to go on the record about the issue, but the publisher's tech support team does not have the same luxury when it comes to customer complaints. An inquiry into the Take-Two tech support site yielded the following array of suggestions on how to fix the problem. The 12-part response follows below:

Please run through the following, go through in order.

1) Delete the game's install data. This is done via the PS3 options. Scroll along the cross media bar until you reach the 'Game' tab, now scroll up / down the list until you reach the 'Game Data Utility' Enter this and locate the GTA IV option. Highlight this and press triangle once, from the menu select Delete. This will delete the game's install information.

2) Delete the game's save files. To delete any save files you will need to do the following. Scroll along the cross media bar until you reach the 'Game' tab, now scroll up / down the list until you reach the 'Save Data Utility' Enter this and locate the GTA IV option. Highlight this and press triangle once, and from the context menu select Delete.

3) Disable your Internet connectivity for the PS3. To do this scroll along the cross media bar until you reach the 'Settings' tab, now scroll up / down the list until you reach the 'Network Settings'. Now scroll down to the Internet connection option and press x, now select the disable option. Once this has been done unplug the ethernet cable if you are connecting to the Internet if using this.

4) Disable the console's information board. To do this scroll along the cross media bar until you reach the 'Network' tab, now scroll up / down the list until you reach the 'Information Board', highlight this and press triangle. From the menu select 'Do not display' Press X to confirm this.

5) Disable Media Server functionality. Scroll to Settings, now scroll up / down to 'Network Settings' select Media Server connection. Once this has been done press triangle and change the option Disabled.

6) Delete all of the system's Internet cache. To do this scroll along the cross media bar until you reach the 'Network' tab, now scroll up / down the list until you reach the 'Internet Browser', highlight this and press X. Once you browser opens press the triangle button once, from the new menu highlight the 'Tools' option and press X. Scroll down the menu until you reach 'Delete Cookies' and press X. Confirm the files deletion. Repeat this for 'Delete Cache'.

7 ) Turn off the PS3 screen saver. Use the cross media bar to scroll to 'Settings', select 'Display Settings'. Now highlight 'Screensaver' and set this to 'Do not use'.

8 ) Once this has been done, manually restart you PS3 by holding down the power button for 5 seconds it will beep once and then shut down. Release the power button and re-press it and hold for about 5 seconds. The system will then boot and reset all display settings. You will be prompted to reset your display settings to how you require them.

9) Once restarted please try the game again, you will be prompted to reinstall.

Once the game has started please turn off the following features:

1) The game's auto-save. Press Start, Game, and locate the Auto-save option. Turn this off.

2) Turn off the game's flicker filter. Press Start, Display and locate the Flicker Filter option. Turn this off.

3) Turn off the controller vibration feature. Press Start, Controls and locate the vibration option. Turn this off.

If that doesn't solve the problem, Take-Two allows tech support users to reopen their cases within seven days.

As for Sony, earlier today, a representative with the company confirmed a 'freezing' issue with GTAIV on "a limited number of PS3s." He added that Sony has received "an extremely low volume" of complaint calls to its customer service line, and that it is working with all concerned parties to pin down and fix the issue.

Microsoft has not yet responded to GameSpot's inquiries on problems with the Xbox 360 edition of the game. GameSpot editors have yet to receive a response to a Take-Two tech support ticket filed for that version of the game.

The game is amazing all the detail, truely a work of art,but it does have problems, also getting the freezing and not loading issues running on a 60 gb ps3,disable the internet and re install the game but keep your saves,i have also found that if you eject the disc and put it back in the ps3 reboots and you can play on until it freezes again!!

Great game rockstar, but still needs a tweek!!!

Sort it out chaps!!!

this problem happens because online mode is somehow integrated directly to the story mode via the mobile phone feature which i find to be stupid, why cant they have a seperate menu for it? or a title screen like every other game?

just unplug your network cable its easier than going disabling you internet connection.

note that this does not always work since some PS3 out there have been breaking from crashing so much.

so be careful.

tried both disabling internet aswell as reverting to a previous save game. no luck, seeing as my ps3 was fresh out the box yesterday aswell as never being hooked to an internet, this whole thing makes no sence to me. gg rockstar, gg.

this is exactly the reason i held off getting a next gen, let alone a ps3 in the first place, as the demand goes up, the quality goes down. though the online ability of the systems alow for updates, why ship a product with known fatal bugs, its like microsoft shipping windows, with full knowledge of bugs and just "intending" to fix them with the next update, just to meet shipping dates.

We're not one to point fingers (kinda) but neither is Michael Pachter, star analyst, who suspects that the recently delayed Grand Theft Auto IV is due to Rockstar having technical difficulties getting the game running properly on the Playstation 3. And due to their contract, they have to push the Xbox 360 version back. Hopefully we'll hear from Rockstar soon about the matter.

Actually David R doesnt know what he is talking about. The 360 version of the game was held up from being released for several months due to the deal Sony has with Rockstar - the 360 version was completed and ready to go last fall but due to problems with the PS3 version it had to sit and wait because Rockstar promised Sony that no other version of the game would be released before the PS3 version. And apparently the 360 version has the same freeze bug. I wish they had put that version out last October so when it started screwing up they would have had plenty of time to fix the PS3 version. Anyway - dont follow all that BS 12 step junk from Take Two - just disable the internet connect and at least enjoy the single player mode for now.

I have an 80GB PS3, however, looks like issue is on all platforms of PS3.

I hit this problem last night and another way round it I found was to delete my last save point and use an old save point - luckily I had two, so I didn't have much catching up to do.

Wish I had seen this thread first and tried switching off online mode.

Wierd though how this problem appeared last night 2/5/08 - everyone one my friends list last night all hit the same problem at the same time - never has my phone and PS3 inbox been so busy!

Has anyone else also had the problem of getting online to play the game - you can't if you been playing more than 5 mins offline. You have to quit game then go back in and select online before you start playing any missions.

Other than that, awesome game offline and online!! Can't complain, other than loading issue last night.

Don't listen to the other people. I had this problem last night. You simply go to your PS3 dashboard and disable your online network. The game will load fine after that. Eventually they will come out with an update to fix this. Many people are formatting their hard drive which is stupid because it could happen again and you loose all your data and game saves. Good luck man. Tell me if it works.

Everyone with GTA 4 for the PS3 is having problems with it. From freezing to not even loading. I have the original 20GB PS3 and it works great for every other game except GTA 4. Now, start the waiting game for the repair patch. Wish you luck.

They said if you uninstall and reinstall the software it should work. Give it a shot it didn't work for me.

looks like a loading error-sometimes this happens when you install a game without clearing the previous games data. go back to the ps3 intro screen. (with the game still in the machine) scroll down to the game now loaded into the system. press x. also make sure the disc is absolutely spotless before installing.

All you got to do is go to network settings and disable Internet connection. The problem is that when the game loads in the beginning it connects to their sever and theres an overload of people right now. When it is fixed everything will be ok

haha....well, not funny at all but i am having the same exact problem...for the first few days, i would have to restart the game to get my game to load but on the "hung out to dry" load, it is just loading for 20minutes or more and never loads....i was searching on here to see if it was just my game or a bug...god damn i hate bad versions!!!!

Try to disable your network on the PS3 this may help the loading problem.

Yes like 1,000,000,000,000,000,000 people have had this problem on the 40gb ps3. Try taking it back to the store. But if you put cheats in than it screws up the missons!!
