I've been encountering this problem since last year. Whenever I play the sims 2 ( I have all expansion packs except for 2 installed), after about 5 minutes, black "things" suddenly appear and it makes my sims not visible and other objects too. When I try to save the game, it hangs. Then after that my computer will say "The application has crashed. The application will now terminate.." I've searched in the internet the solution, but I didn't find one. I tried uninstalling ALL of them but it still won't work. Please help me..

P.S.
I have windows xp---just in case you need that info
thanks!
I will choose you as best answer and recommend you to everyone else if you provide me a WORKING solution

mine does that too! it drives me bananas. does it happen with every one of your houses? only some of my houses do it. i built this big beautiful house, fully furnished. and moved some sims in and within 2 minutes the application crashed. I moved the sims out, had to delete all the furniture, but at least i can keep the house. I moved new sims into it, havent gotten to furnish it yet, but it hasn't crashed when i let the sims run around in it for 20 minutes to test it.

unfortunatly the best fix i have found for it is to save very often, and run a timer to see when it crashes. for a while, one house would crash every 5 minutes, and then i would keep playing it and it would go longer and longer without crashing. unfortunatly not a great fix, but it gives me an idea of when to save.

do you have any custom content on your game? i have tons, and i bet that is what my problem is. i refuse to delete all of it, so i just deal with the crashing. try moving your houses around in the neighborhood, and build some new ones. i know it sucks, but the best thing i can offer is uninstall everything and basically start over. my boyfriend is a computer genius and thats what he tells me to do, but i don't want to!!!

and you deleted EVERYTHING? did you backup the games, uninstalled them, installed them again, and loaded the backups? that probably won't work. don't use backups, and try starting the game over completly. if that doesnt work, i suggest calling the EA help line.

My husband had the same problem and it was his video /graphics card. He went to play and certain things wouldn't show up. To solve your problem you will have to buy a better graphics card for your computer. You might want to find one that's compatible with the Sims 2 or if you plan on getting the Sims 3, buy one that's compatible with the Sims 3. Then you would definitely have no problems with playing the Sims 2. Newegg.com and Target have some pretty good deals. Ten to one you get a better graphics/ video card you won't have anymore problems with your game.

I had a similar problem and it turned out to be one of the objects I had downloaded into the game. I uninstalled the game, deleted all the folders left behind with the objects in them, reinstalled the game and then very carefully downloaded new objects ONLY from the sims resourse or ea games
