Hi, I've been wondering what character types would be optimal for playing on the most challenging difficulty in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. I've been playing for around 5 years on and off and have a great affinity for this game, and would like to try to receive the most rewarding roleplaying experience that Oblivion has to offer.

Whichever class you like best. Whichever class's abilities best match your style of play. Simple as that!

Well, you have too play with what you'e confortable with. This is just me but i have played on the hardest difficult and i find it very easy i use mostlyy and sword and a shield and i hotkey my items soo I always have my shield equiped then i got my one-handed sword on the up d-pad then i get my most powerfull destruction spell on the left my most powerfull healing spell on the right and on the bottom i get a bow for long range i also have equipped arrows all tim and heavy armor. That's how i finished the game 6 times (and by 6 times i mean all the freaking quest!). Srry for the long message!

It completely depends on what goals you're going for. If you want to complete the main quest line or the Fighters' Guild you should go with something more on the lines of heavy armor,blade/blunt,and block, with your race being Orc/Redguard,birthsign being "The Warrior",and class being on the lines of barbarian or knight.(My custom class that won me the game is called militia, race is redguard, major skills are armorer,blade,block,blunt,H2H,heavy armor, and acrobatics) If you want to become Arch-Mage(which is also helpful for main questling,I.E. "Staff of Worms",conjuration magic) you should have a Breton with "The Mage" birthsign and specialize in all magic types and alchemy(or a weapon such as blade). But be prepared for the many powerful enemies up ahead. If you want the Thieves' Guild or the Dark Brotherhood you should have an Argonian,Khajiit or Bosmer(Wood Elf),have one of the three birthsigns, which are mainly "The Steed","The Shadow",and"The Theif",specializing in sneak,security,blade/blunt,light armor, athletics, acrobatics, and mercantile/speechcraft/marksmen.

prolly a battle mage who is strong in sneak and bow. i used to be unstopable with that combination. and skyrim is coming out soon so get ready for that. i wouldn't get addicted to oblivion cause skyrim is going to blow it out of the water.

I would guess stealth/archer? I usually try to obtain chameleon items (sometimes 100%). With that you can't lose lol.
