I have a dazzle but the thing is really bad and I can't get very good gameplay out of it. I want to start using an HD capture card to provide good gameplay for machinima. What is the best HD capture card out in the market these days. I use a mac but I also have a pc, so compatability is no problem.

Ok well if your going for HD like legit HD, not just recording in 480 and converting to 1080, your best bet is the Hauppauge HD PVR, which records the component video (YCrCb) connections and maybe composite, but im not sure about that one.

I currently have a dazzle which is cheap and quick, but I just put in an order for a Black Magic Intensity Pro

ok I just got my blackmagic and apparently there's a hdcp thingy in it now so you can't record the xbox through HDMI only component

This records in 1080i and is an internal capture card, while the hauppauge is external

some people say the intensity pro is better quality slightly, but they are both the same price, $200.00

also the Intensity pro can record in HDMI which was the winning factor that got me to buy it over the hauppauge

both cary a heavy price tag so I would check into youtube and watch some quality tests for the:

Dazzle DVC 100

Hauppauge HD PVR

Black magic Intensity Pro

and make sure you check specifications so everything will work, and happy machinima making

If your computer is powerful enough, you can get AverTV HD DVR or Intensity Pro. Both allows to record 720p HD videos from HDMI.

Alternatively you can use HD PVR. It records from component cables (analogue, not digital), but allows to record 720p videos. HD PVR has a built-in h.264 encoder and it is an external device, not a capture card. Some video editors have problems editing h.264 recordings.

p.s. Dazzle is for SD recordings. You can get EasyCap instead of it, it will be much cheaper.
10-4 good buday.

I did a very hard way that got me HD results for the same price as a Dazzle.

I got a distribution amp, and got a Male to Male HDMI cable and a Male to Make RWY cable.

I plugged in all of my xbox cords then put the male to males into the tv, then I plugged in my camera's output cords into the amp and then I could record in 720p.

the main inexpensive place may be Amazon, you would be confusing pressed to discover one as sturdy for under a $a hundred markup at a brick and mortar save. As for my advice (one million: Google it, don't be lazy), one million) Blackmagic intensity professional (google it); and a pair of) Hauppauge HD PVR (google it). On Amazon, they'll run you a splash under $2 hundred, sturdy success everywhere else. Edit: kit whilst bought by using Amazon, perhaps $50. ultimate purchase? extra like $a hundred-$a hundred thirty (in basic terms cables and a splitter).

Dazzle is good, just need a program to convert it to HD and it works perfectly fine.
