Microsoft Flight Simulator X Graphics (Original vs Gold or Deluxe)?

So I have the original version of Flight Simulator X and have been wanting to play it. My laptop cant handle the game so I took it by my friends house who has a top of the line, custom built gaming computer. However when we went to go play it, the graphics were horrible and the game lagged a little. (We played other games on his computer that day, so it was not the computer).

Out of curiosity, since his computer is new, would that effect how such an old game is played? Also, is there a difference in quality between the original version and the Gold or Deluxe releases of the game?

I should also mention I don't know much about computers or what components he has in his. Thanks

basic vs deluxe vs gold

the three version distinguish themselves by the following

«The Deluxe Edition incorporates additional features, including an on-disc software development kit (SDK), three airplanes with the Garmin G1000 Flightdeck, and the ability for the player to act as Air Traffic Control (ATC) for other online users with a radar screen.

The Deluxe Edition features 24 aircraft compared to 18 in the Standard Edition; 45 high-detail airports compared to 40; 38 high-detail cities compared to 28; and 51 structured missions compared to more than 30.

Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Gold Edition combines the Deluxe Edition and the Acceleration expansion pack into one.»

«Acceleration introduces new features, including multiplayer air racing, new missions, and three all-new aircraft, the F/A-18A Hornet, EH-101 helicopter and the P-51D Mustang. In many product reviews, users complained of multiple bugs in the initial release of the pack. One of the bugs, that occurs only in the Standard Edition, is the Maule Air Orion aircraft used in the mission has missing gauges and other problems, as it is a Deluxe Version-only aircraft.

The new scenery enhancements cover Berlin, Istanbul, Cape Canaveral and the Edwards Air Force Base, providing high accuracy both in the underlying photo texture (60 cm/pixel) and in the detail given to the 3D objects.

Flight Simulator X: Acceleration can take advantage of Windows Vista, Windows 7, and DirectX 10 as well.»

(from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Flight_Simulator_X#Standard_vs._Deluxe_Edition )

thus except for the DirectX 10 Acceleration (thus Gold) can take advantage of, all three versions are technically identical and should run without problem on a recent computer with powerful enough Processor and Graphic adapter.

the problems you encountered are probably due to the fact that FSX depends heavily on CPU, hard disk and video card.

even on a dedicated PC (thus where no other game or other programs are installed) it takes a lot of work to tune Windows & FSX for later to work smoothly.

see following web page for a (long) list of steps to take ( http://www.simforums.com/forums/topic29041.html )

bottom line is, your friends PC is most likely riddled with little sharewares, messengers, facebook & what not applications which keep "interrupting" FSX, thus causing the game to jump.

if you wish to enjoy FSX, the best is probably to create a separate windoooz installation dedicated to FSX and tweaked for it
