Minecraft Controls Help?

Hello! So today I was using a new laptop and downloaded minecraft but had a little trouble with the controls. Whenever I try to walk, it only switches spaces between my hotbar (on screen-inventory). So when I hit ESC and clicked controls I tried changing controls like forward (walk) to W, it just changes it to a random number. Is there any way to fix this? Thank you!

Make sure to fix your controllers by rendering around the components

W forward S backward A left D right G drop E inventery T chat / write commands space jump double space fly in creative 1-9 choose item in hotbar right clic place left clic hit with sword and hand mine with pick axe roll the thing on your mouse same of 1-9 right shift down F2 take screenshots F5 third person view you can also change controls in Options

All you have to do when rebinding your controls is to first click one of the controls (Ex. Forward) and then push whatever key you want to assign it to. (W in your case)

Hmm... Sounds like you need to contact Notch or another official, sounds like a system checking error.
