It's really difficult to recommend a SPECIFIC MMO, because everyone likes something different. Check out http://mmohut.com for an enormous list of these free mmorpg / mmo games. I use that site to find new games to play. Every week I try a new game =) - It's a lot of fun. They have like every single MMORPG categorized nicely with reviews, screenshots, videos and more. Heck they even list the game's system requirements =p. Best part is all the games are free, which rocks.
They list all the big non-download MMORPGs too on their browser game section.
They just put up a list of the best Free MMORPGs of 2009, so you may want to check that out.
You should try Grand Fantasia. It's an anime-themed MMORPG which is unique compared to other "typical" MMORPGs. The Sprite system seems to be pretty unique, allowing your "pet" to obtain materials and craft items for you to use or sell, or using it to auto-loot for you (while providing certain buffs based on what you've equipped it with). There are multiple classes with different paths, each providing certain necessary functions in parties. There are many challenging dungeons with multiple boss fights, which provide much better loot than levelling up solo, as well as valuable quest rewards based on your class. Check it out for yourself.
