Do world of warcraft info sites infect your computer with viruses and keyloggers to hack your account?

The first couple of years I played WoW were without incident. Then a few months ago, my account got hacked and all my gold and items stolen. Blizzard was able to restore most of it, but I'm wondering how I could have been so specifically targeted. I used Thottbot a ton for like a year and a half before the hacking, so I doubt it was them. I started using Guildportal and Wowhead some a few months before the hacking, so I'm more suspicious of them. I'm pretty confident it was a keylogger that stole my account info and then sold the gold to someone else during the great wowgold whisper spamming of earlier this year. Anyone have thoughts on this?

No, chances are you have a week password, the same password for multiple things (sites) or you (or some one else who uses your computer) was going to the seedier side of the internet.

If you are worried about bad sites I recommend getting an addon for Firefox (also available for IE) called "McAfee SiteAdvisor" they check every site on the internet (if a site hasn't been checked than going to that site and selecting to view site details will queue it to be tested) the sites are randed as Grey (not tested), Green (Safe), Yellow (Usually given to sites that have a spammy email once in a while), and than theres Red (These sites can be browser hijackers, virus/spyware downloads, the site is a phishing, or the site links directly to a red site).

I don't know about Guildportal, but i have been using Wowhead.com for almost a year now and my account has not been touched once by hackers, so it's definitely not Wowhead.com. If you ever see any wow gold ppl whispering u or yelling out load etc Do Not whisper them back because sometimes they are smart enough to track ur IP address from the whisper u send them. :( i know this cos once my friend sent a whisper to a gold seller and a day later he got hacked, dunno if thats just a coincidence or is it the gold ppls.

Also yes as mentioned above "McAfee Site Adviser" is a great add-on for Internet explorer or Mozilla Firefox
