Question:
PSP Custom Firmware Questions?

I was really stupid when I updated from 5.00 to 5.50 today. So far I can't find a downgrader or custom firmware for my PSP. But I haven't done custom firmware before so I don't know what exactly I'm doing yet, so I could use some help here.

So far I have 5.50 firmware, and I think I need to wait for a 5.50 downgrader to come out or maybe 5.50 M-33. I don't know. I tried to put on 5.00 M-33 onto it in some sort of attempt to get custom firmware, but that didn't work.

So my first question is, if Dark Alex or someone comes up with a 5.50 Custom Firmware, does that mean it is for my firmware version and then I will be able to get it?

Then also if someone makes a 5.50 downgrader, do I downgrade and then what do I do? Do I have to get like the first custom firmware then work my way up installing all the Customs before it? Or do I just update to the highest one that has custom firmware, like 5.00, and then get some 5.00 custom firmware?

Thanks, and it would help if you explain a lot of how this stuff works I guess.

No you couldn't just use the 5.5m333 if its released. Ignore what GaReNi is saying. To get custom firmware on a psp these days you need 2 things.

The first thing is called a pandoras battery, which is a battery modded to tell the psp to go into service mode which is used by sony to run diagnostics.

The second thing is a magic memory stick. Which is a memory stick pro duo card that has software which is used to exploit the service mode to wipe the system and install new custom firmware.

People don't make downgraders anymore, those are a thing of the past. The pandora battery and mms has taken over, which i really like becasue this way if you ever have software problems with the psp for any reason you can use the pb/mms setup to fix most problems, including bricking.

Yeah, alot of people get confused when it comes to custom firmwares. When it all started out you had to downgrade to run games and homerew because of the security sony included in firmwares after 1.50. Then the hackers got on the scene and figured out how to take sony's updates and make them able to run homebrew and games while getting all of the benefits of upgrading firmware.

First you need to determine if your psp is even hackable for that go here: http://www.psp-hacks.com/forums/f127/determine-if-ur-psp-is-hackable-start-here-t235073/

Secondly there aren't specific firmware downgraders anymore because we no longer have to downgrade to 1.50 thanks to hackers like dark_alex. so to get stated on hacking you psp check out this site: http://www.psp-hacks.com/forums/f127/how-to-hack-any-psp-using-pandora-method-t199878/

If you have any more questions about psp's and hacking them either send me a personal message, or join the forum at: http://www.psp-hacks.com/forums/index.php

The most current CFW from the M33 team is 5.00 M33-6. You could wait for a downgrader and will have to if you have a PSP 3000 if you have a 1000 or 2000 you may be able to buy a Pandora battery and magic mem stick (not magic gate but magic meaning the battery will boot and install the cfw on the mem stick). Email me at arbiter918@hotmail.com and I will help you all I can, I have been in the psp scene about a year now.
