Oblivion IV

My friends said you're supposed to level up on the very first mission.
Well I am only 1/4 of the way to being level two.
I beat the first mission.
I've killed like 300 rats.
My progress bar hasn't moved at all.

Why can't I level up?

1. I highly doubt you killed 300 rats. Mainly because there are about 10 or so throughout the entire place.

2. You don't level until after the emperor is assassinated because THAT is when you get your major skills.

3. Your major skills dictates level, not your minor.

4. You must level your Major skills ten times. Whether it be 2 lvls in one, 3 in another, and 5 in another, it must ALWAYS equal ten.

5. If you didn't level anything ten times before you chose your class or custom class AND the skill(s) you leveled ten times is NOT in your major skills then you will not gain a level.

6. So if you want to level be sure to level a skill ten times or a number of skills to equal ten AND choose those skills to be your major skills.

7. A hint for you. Things in oblivion can get hard quick if you don't have it on an easy setting. To make things easier do NOT choose skills you use as your Major skills. Instead choose ones you do not use or do not intend to use. That way you can max your skills out for those that you want and then when you want to level you can level the skills you don't use as your major skills that way YOU have control of when you level AND control over the difficulty of enemies.

8. I think that is all. Try what I said and see if you level now.

There are two things that determine a weapon's strength: 1. Your level. As you progress through levels of 1-4 to 5-9 ALL WEAPONS AND ARMORS STATS go up. The levels that you see on that wiki page actually represent the levels that your character should be at. Once you've picked up a weapon though, it's stats will stay like that. 2. Your actual skill with the weapons takes factor also. The higher your skill with a certain weapon the more damage you are likely to do.

Just play. First of all you have to make sure you're using your major skills a lot, they get the most experience. Second, you have to sleep to level up. You'll know when because a thing will pop up saying something along the lines of, you've reached a new level you should sleep, something like that I don't remember exactly, its been a while.

you need to find skills to level up in (or maybe thats just skyrim) or lower level, and dont worry about leveling up, its really hard to lvl up in oblivion, try other quests once you get out of there too, it will lead to you to guidance on leveling up
