I have over 25,000 files in my ea folder and c drive is redlining disc space. I would delete many of the downloads if I had a simple program other than SimPE where I can see the objects but I don't. If I compress the folder will the game still work?

Yes you will be able. And it would significantly increase loading times. The folder is located in the EA Games/The Sims 2/Downloads which is located in your My Documents.

You can use this software to compress this file, or winrar if you already have it. So install 7zip and right click on the folder you want to compress and select 7zip, then compress. After you compressed the folder, you can safely remove the uncompressed folder.

*Before I removed the downloads, my sims 2 game took about 10 mins to load and now it takes 1 min at max.

*Do NOT download anything else than the downloads folder in the EA Games folder or you could lose your savedgames. If you don't care about your savedgames, just delete the EA folder.

There are some fantastic, reputable programs you can download from the internet that will help you heaps.

The first one I would recommend is the Compressorizor from DJS Sims: http://forum.jfade.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=170 (Overview here: http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,8316.0.html )

Also get Delphy's Download Organizer from Modthesims. Use it to scan your Downloads folder for duplicates and orphans. You'd be amazed how many useless files can be hidden in your Downloads folder without you realising. http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=227925

And last but not least CleanInstaller helps you categorise and view your content http://sims2pack.modthesims2.com/
