is my early access code for guild wars 2 the CD key?

I pre ordered (not pre purchase) guild wars2 a while back and just got the early accesscode from my email. I was just wondering if this code is my CD key from the physical retail box or is it just to get early access? If not then will they be asking to re register with the CD key from the retail box?

They key you got in your email is the early access key which you will need to enter at the beginning of the head start. You shall then enter your CD key (which is a different key) from the box on the release date.



I would have thought if you pre-ordered the game you get the key on the 25th as my retailer informed me. Those who have pre-purchased the game are normally the ones who get their key right away so that seems strange. I guess all retailers are different. Type it in on the GW2 website when you register and download the client then you can play! GOOD LUCK!

That depends on where you are and what version you bought.



If you bought one of the digital editions, then the code you received is indeed your retail code. You can use it to get 1-day early access, and to play the game on launch.



If you bought the Collector's Edition box, then the pre-order code will give you the 1-day early access, and it will be valid until 5 days after release date. By that time, you have to update it with the actual retail code that comes in the box (or you will not be able to play until you do)



If you bought the physical standard edition box, then it depends on where you are. If you're in Europe, then the pre-order code is your retail code. You can use it for the 1-day early access and for the game after launch.

If you're in North America, then the same rules apply as with the Collector's Edition... your pre-order code is valid until 5 days after launch, and by that time you have to replace it with the code that comes in the box.

If you're somewhere else in the world, then you may want to check with your retailer what policy they use.
