I put them all in my Sims 2/downloads folder in the documents but in game I only see half of what I download. And I'm always sure to get meshes & recolors in there.

You need the CEP to see recolours of maxis objects. Get it on modthesims2

If you download custom content that is not compatible (you don't have the expansion pack required) it won't show up in your game. Take a look at one that isnt showing up. Find out what expansions are needed. Also, sometimes it doesnt show up where you expect it too in the item bin. You could be looking in decorative, and its really in the misc folder.

Since you have the meshes and recolors in there they should work, but there is this recolor thing I forget its name. I got it on ModtheSims because it was required for a download, it looks like a set of keys almost. But, if that's not the case I found that when I installed an expansion pack all of my downloads didn't show up, so I deleted them all and went in the recycle bin, restored them and the downloads showed up again.

(1) Check that your downloads folder is in the correct location and is correctly named 'Downloads' (make sure the 'D' is capital!)

(2) Most downloads for The Sims 2 are .zip or .rar files. You need to extract the files from .zip or .rar files using a program as Winzip or Winrar, or if you have Windows Vista you can simply Right Click on the .zip or .rar file, and click Extract All...

Make sure all the extracted files are in The Sims 2/Downloads

3) Make sure you have custom content ENABLED in your in game options.

4) If you are downloading a recolour of a Maxis object, you need to get the CEP (Color Enabler Package) (link avaliable in sources)

5) Make sure when you download a file you also get the mesh associated with the file.

I hope I helped =]

The same thing happened to me.

Make sure that your 'Downloads' folder has a capital D. Mine didn't, and when I changed it to have a capital D it worked fine.

If not, some downloads just don't ever show up in the game, so I would recommend going to other sites wherever possible.

Also, make sure you've unzipped every bit of your files.

That's all I can think to suggest, hope I helped.
