Question:
Need an MMORPG like Guild Wars but with non-combat skills, not WoW?

I'm sorry, but I found WoW boring, unappealing, and unattractive when I tried it, say nothing about my server being shut down. As far as MMORPG's go, my favorite by far has been Guild Wars. However, Runescape's non-combat skills are a good concept...Runescape just isn't the right game to use them on. I want a good, fairly current, decent quality MMORPG where you can use non-combat skills to make money, such as fishing or crafting of some sort. Basically, something similar to what would happen if Guild Wars adopted Runescape's skills (more or less).

Other than GW and RS, I've also tried at some point or another:
Maplestory (Horrible in so many ways, as expected. I need to stop taking my friends' advice.)
Adventure Quest (Does that even COUNT?)
2Moons (The bloody mess sort of thing is fun and different but otherwise it's a fairly mediocre game at best.)
Sword of the New World (It sounded a lot better than it actually was. Boring and uninteresting)

Don't bother suggesting anything that is really 2d or "3d" but with horrible graphics. I also don't want suggestions such as Eve online. I, for some reason, don't like playing games involving space ships and aliens and such (Crysis was mildly tolerable but a whole mmorpg based off of spaceships? Heck no.) I want to play as a human, or at least something fairly humanlike.

So, any suggestions? A link to a website and/or screenshots/gameplay videos, etc would be appreciated. Get me a new favorite MMORPG, all my stars are belong to you!

There are a lot of free MMORPGs out there, many of them have non-combat skills. I'll list some of them. Try www.mmorpg.com for some more listings; wikipedia also has a extensive (if a little out-of-date) listing.

Runes of Magic: If you didn't like WoW you probably won't like this, it is high-quality free to play WoW clone, however it does have WoW style crafting.

Perfect World: This one does for Chinese mythology what WoW does for Tolkien.

Ragnarok Online: If you didn't like Maple Story because of its graphics you might not like this one either. However many of its servers are free, and it does have non-combat skills.

Anarchy Online - Partially free to play (some areas require subscription) lots of non-combat skills there. Sci-fi theme, but all characters are human or very human-like.

Star Wars Galaxies: Has extensive non-combat skills, indeed some of its classes are entirely non-combat! Probably the closest to Runescape as far as skills goes. It requires a subscription however.

I know a awesome MMORPG called Darkfall Online which promises to allow players the freedom to make everything in the world. Also I believe it makes crafting be important to the war effort on each side. There will be a market where you can buy or sell any of the multitude of items. The game's website says that it's possible to be the first to create some items which is very cool.Only problem is that it's not out yet but I think you should keep an eye out for the game's release.

I don't know if this is the right answer, but have you looked at Second Life? It's not a game like the traditional MMORPG's so perhaps it isn't for you. However it definitely has crafting and building. Heck the whole system is crafting and building things inworld that you can display or sell to others for profit.

The learning curve is a bit steep for new residents (player just isn't the right term) but if you have a creative streak you can craft anything you can imagine.

Well perhaps that game isn't out yet. Best progression I've seen with non-combat was Star Wars Galaxies. You can be a guy who specializes in hair dressing. You can be a business man and specialize in advertising. I don't know it's current state (may try it again) but a lot of people did well in that game without having to do combat. However it is alien so may not be to your liking.

The other one I liked that attracted some Guild Wars crowd was Warhammer. However if you don't like pvp then that game is not for you.

Only other one that is as diversed that I know of off top of my head is Darkfall but many people who have been watching that are concluding it is vaporware.
