Question:
SKYRIM FANS!! PLEASE I NEED HELP!?!?

So actually I have several questions about skyrim, and answering one, multiple, or even all of then would be much appreciated (I do vote best answer so whoever gives me the best answer will get 10 points! :D) From the beginning:h
A while ago I made full daedric armor and daedric weapons, but it wasn't good enough. I found out about the max armor cap and ultimate damage strategies online. For those of you who do not know what this is, I will describe it here, if you already know what it is, skip to the next paragraph. You can level your armor and weapons to extreme levels by getting your enchanting, alchemy, and smithing skills to 100, with most of the corresponding perks. Then you make a potion of fortify enchanting. Drink the potion and with the effects make armor of fortify alchemy. With your improved alchemy, make a better potion of fortify enchanting and so on leveling up until you feel satisfied. Then with your ultimate fortify alchemy armor, make a potion of fortify smithing. With your fortify enchanting potions, make really good enchanted fortify smithing armor. And once you get this, if you made extra potions, you can enchant the armor and weapons to extreme levels as well.

So pretty much I did this strategy, (not too much cause I didnt want to be too OP) but even still I had a daedric greatsword with damage 211 and a bow with about 170. My total armor rating was close to 2000, way over the max armor cap of 567. So the other day I really wanted to get a bunch of stuff so I left everything in a chest at my house. (running around skyrim naked when an elder dragon could come at any moment lol). I did a bunch of stuff for a few days and eventually came back to my house to get my stuff. My armor was exactly the way I left it same armor rating and enchantments, and my weapons had the same enchantments. Yet somehow, my daedric sword had gone from 211 damage to 145 damage, and my bow had gone from 170 damage to 50 (more or less) damage!!!! I was so frustrated but I didnt feel like going back days of work just to get another 100 damage, when I was already planning on upgrading it more eventually.

So my first question is: Why did my bow and sword lose damage when it was in the chest? (It still said legendary like it had before, but lacked alot of its previous damage from the glitch I did)

So after that I figured it would be quicker just to grab some spare potions and my old enchanted smithing armor from long ago. I eventually found it and went to a weapon grindstone. I made sure I had ebony ingots to improve them. So I put on the enchanted smithing apparel and drank a fortify smithing potion (it was even better than the one I'd had before so I was expecting my sword to go up to like 250 or something). But instead, both the items showed up on the grindstone faded, and when I tried to select it, it said: "you lack the required perks to improve this" This is impossible however since I have a level 100 smithing and every perk except for glass armor forging. I used to be able to improve legendary items even more if I had the correct perks, but now it didn't let me. I then tried to improve my armor and the same thing happened.

So my second question is: Why was I not able to improve my weapons at the grindstone? And why did it say I lacked the perks?

Finally, very confused I went to the skill trees, and looked at smithing to make sure I still had the perks, and sure enough I did (except for glass forging). Then I noticed that it said "Y button: legendary" so i clicked Y and it said: "make this skill legendary? It will reset skill to 15" So i clicked yes and it reset to 15, and had a little dragon symbol beneath the perk. I went back to an earlier save though because I really didnt feel like making 1000 more iron daggers :) (I will however if it is necessary, so please let me know). Then frustrated, I quit the game.

Question 3: I was wondering if this "legendary skill" option had something to do with my previous problems? And if I upgrade to legendary and make it back to 100 if I will be able to then improve my weapons?

Question 4: What benefits does resetting to legendary give? I am already aware that it lets you get to an almost unlimited level past the old cap of 81. But what other benefits does it give?

Question 5: Should I just start over with a new daedric set? (I dont really want to but I will if necessary)

Question 6: Is there any way to fix this at all? Or is the only way to go back to an earlier save?

Question 7: Any other advice?

P.S. I have all 3 DLC's downloaded which I believe came with the legendary perk option, because it wasnt there before. However, when I first made and upgraded my daedric armor and weapons, I had no DLC's. I got them recently. I also am playing on an XBOX 360. Sorry for such a long question :) Thank you all so much for any help!!! :D

Your second question: Not having the glass armor perk can be a deciding factor.

Your first question: Glitches are very unreliable so there is no telling what could have happened. Or you may have drank a potion to up your damage or had a certain period of armor on.

Third and fourth question: legendary perks is simply there to allow to level up infinitely and have infinite perks it will not improve you smithing skill over all unless you get new perks.

Question five: The same thing would probably happen but there is no telling for sure. Sry

Question six: you could keep redoing the glitch if you like :/

Question seven: learn some magic to greatly improve you character. Hope this helps.

"So my first question is: Why did my bow and sword lose damage when it was in the chest? (It still said legendary like it had before, but lacked alot of its previous damage from the glitch I did)"

Because your armor was not equipped, you were not receiving its enchantment bonuses, such as to one-handed attacks or archery. The value of your armor may appear reduced as well, because your set-bonuses from perks might not be applying. As soon as you equip all of your enchanted gear, the effectiveness of your weapons and bows will return to normal, even when just viewed and not equipped.

"So my second question is: Why was I not able to improve my weapons at the grindstone? And why did it say I lacked the perks?"

For precisely the same reason as above. The weapons you're trying to improve have already been improved to the best of your current set-ups ability, and can't be improved any more unless you achieve even higher smithing bonuses. Again, the only reason your weapons -appear- to have shrunk in damage is because you don't have your gear with damage-boosting enchantments equipped.

"Question 3: I was wondering if this "legendary skill" option had something to do with my previous problems? And if I upgrade to legendary and make it back to 100 if I will be able to then improve my weapons?"

No, advancing to legendary will simply force you to retrain the skill, something you definitely don't want to do (I know from painful experience) with crafting skills. Use legendary advancement on combat/magic skills instead.

"Question 4: What benefits does resetting to legendary give? I am already aware that it lets you get to an almost unlimited level past the old cap of 81. But what other benefits does it give?"

Beside more perk-points, health, mana, and stamina, none.

"Question 5: Should I just start over with a new daedric set? (I dont really want to but I will if necessary)"

certainly not!

"Question 6: Is there any way to fix this at all? Or is the only way to go back to an earlier save?"

Hopefully I've illustrated your problem isn't really a problem at all! :)

"Question 7: Any other advice?"

If advancing legendary combat skills, the Companions make a great source of free training!

1. Armour cap? If you don’t close with the enemy a good set of Ebony or Glass will do fine. Enchant with Health and Smithy or another defense.

Enchant with double features, Archery and Sneak as an example, as you know.

You can only increase the effectiveness of the armour/weapon to Twice its normal

2. The dagger making ‘edge’ was corrected during a patch. Now, just make the most expensive items to quickly advance the skills.

3. 4. http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Skills

5. I wouldn’t even go to that level. As I have said I’ve been able to do quite fine with Ebony and Glass (mostly Glass) in the game.

6. Don’t know.

7. Just enjoy the game and its many replays. I don’t worry about ‘maxing’ out, just ENJOY the game play.

P.S. The legendary perk is a patch having nothing to do with Down Loaded Content.
