The costs involved in producing games have continued to skyrocket as the technology advances. But there are other market forces at work that conspire to keep gaming costs much higher than what you pay to see a film or buy a DVD, none of which the average consumer can do a great deal about.



There is hope on the horizon. X-Arcade on the 360 has shown that people are willing to play cheaper games bought online, and both Sony and Nintendo have brought forth a plan for downloadable content as well.



Speaking to your question more directly -it's rare for any game to be reduced in price as a 'greatest hits' within less than a year. Those games that didn't do so well in sales will often see price reductions sooner than that, as in the case of Gun or Killer 7.

Because most corporations like getting the most money out of everything esp. if it's a really good and popular product like Playstation.
