i'm playing legend of zelda and i have already found the first part of the triforce, but i still don't know what's going on. Do you find out the plot as you advance in the game?

You need to look in the instruction booklet. Back in the NES days of gaming, adding text was a lot of work and hard for the game process! So they put all that story related stuff in the manuals.
The plot is the same as all the other classic-type Zelda games. Find the triforce pieces, save Hyrule and Zelda by beating up Ganon the pig-monster, etc.

Well it doesn't really tell you much at the beginning but you find out as you go along that obviously you need to get pieces of the triforce to do something and since it is a Zelda game she has been captured because you dont see her anywhere.

Nope. The plot was described in the instruction book that came with the original. If you want the story check Wikipedia.

You can also get a good chunk of the story just by waiting on the title screen.
