A raid is composed of up to 8 groups of 5 people(40 in total). Raids can be used for various things, raiding each others territory, towns, cities etc. But majority of people raid large dungeons which require a large group of people since the creeps/bosses are really hard to do with your avg 5 man group. In raids you earn I believe little to no experience but alot of gold(which is often split amongst the whole raid). In raids when you kill bosses they drop alot of good end-game loot such as Tier sets or just good epics.

well you are kinda right, it can be called a raid....a raid is basically a group of at least 6 people. 5 people is a group...anything after that, has to be converted into a raid. you can be in a raid to raid the other factions towns, or you can be in a raid to do an instance. doesnt really matter what you do, just 6 people or more is always called a raid. and anything 5 and under is a group.

Umm... the scientific defenition for the word Raid might connect with the video game so here it is: RAID — which stands for Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks (as named by the inventor), or alternatively Redundant Array of Independent Disks (a name which later developed within the computing industry) — is a technology that employs the simultaneous use of two or more hard disk drives to achieve greater levels of performance, reliability, and/or larger data volume sizes.

The phrase "RAID" is an umbrella term for computer data storage schemes that can divide and replicate data among multiple hard disk drives. RAID's various designs all involve two key design goals: increased data reliability and increased input/output performance. When several physical disks are set up to use RAID technology, they are said to be in a RAID array. This array distributes data across several disks, but the array is seen by the computer user and operating system as one single disk. RAID can be set up to serve several different purposes, the most common of which are outlined below.
