gameboy advance is old and is too wide to get used to (i used to drop it all the time because of its shape) The gameboy advance sp is the newer version of the old gameboy advance and its shape is easy to get used to. So if you want to keep buying gameboy advane because you keep dropping it, i would reccommend getting a gameboy advance sp

The gameboy advance SP is much better. It has a backlit screen which is able to be turned off any time during gameplay, as there is a small button on it. It folds down for easy storage. But, if you were going to buy her one, I would actually suggest buying her a Nintendo DS. They are a much better deal and they are able to play all types of games, including games from the gameboy advance (SP). But of the two I would definately buy the SP version. It is much more durable and will last longer, and you can play it in the dark. But the Nintendo DS is a much better deal. I am an electronics tester and the nintendo DS was much better than the gameboy advance or the SP. It even worked better than the newer versions, the DS lite and the DS drk. It tops about $100 and you can also buy it used at E.B. Games or Gamestop. Hope that helped. Wish your sister happy birthday for me!

for the most part they are the same, they run the same games but the major differences are how they are built, the advance is more of a rectangular and long. all the buttons are on the front. the sp however is more square, when closed, and its like a flip phone. also the sp has a back light, light built in, which is very nice and it can also be turned off when not needed. the sp was the next updated version of the gameboy after the advance. i recommend getting an sp, you can find them relativly cheap. and like stated above, it has a built in light, so you wont have to spend extra getting a small light. also when folded you dont have to worry about scratching the screen, and it fits in the pocket better. I would reccomend going to gamestop, they have very good prices.

The advance and advanced sp are the same things basically. The sp is better because it has a light built in the screen to play in the dark and what not, and the advance does not. The sp also flips open and closed witch protects the screen and buttons. Im pretty sure you can find a ds on Craigslist for cheap, but if not the sp is the way to go.

Gameboy Advance is the original iteration of the GBA systems. It's big and it's good for larger hands, as the buttons are more spaced out. Just like all gameboys before it, it needs direct light to be able to see what's going on.

GBA SP has a sleeker, folding design, making it more compact. The buttons are a bit closer to each other, but the feedback is crisp. Unlike the GBA, it is back-lit, meaning it has its own light source and doesn't need direct light to be able to see what's going on. The display is a bit smaller, making the picture seem sharper.

Personally, I'd go with the GBA SP, and knowing most kids, they'd prefer that too.

GBA SP and GBA (Game Boy Advance & Game Boy Advance SP) is differentiated by the size and portability of the two.

SP has the same screen size as the regular GBA but has a folding case squared-off design and a much brighter screen unlike the GBA which is more wider, bulky and heavy design.

If you're buying for your kidsI would recommend the SP as it may be the more costly choice but its more suitable for your kids to carry around.
