You obviously have no idea of the power of a hacker.

I don't know why people are complaining that PSN is down when the service is FREE.

Sony are doing all they can to bring it back online but the worry is have they secured everything? They never promised anything when they said maybe a day or 2 means it could be a week. Sony Admin dev accounts have been breached and that is going to take time to re secure they are currently backing everything up on new servers thats 70 million users worldwide so they have to do it country by country and making sure everything is in a safe place before even thinking about bringing it back online that take at least a week.

If your gaming network is down and you know it, clap your hands. You should hear the furious sound of clapping emanating from Sony headquarters, as we're now into day four of the PlayStation Network outage.

For those of you still scratching your heads as to why your console is throwing up error message "80710A06" whenever you try to connect up to play some online Mortal Kombat, Portal 2, or SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs–talk about a bad week for the network to go down–let's recap.

The outage officially began on Wednesday with Sony itself noting, that evening, that, "We're aware certain functions of PlayStation Network are down." The note came straight from the mouth, er, keys of senior director of corporate communications and social media Patrick Seybold. And that was just the beginning.

Seybold jumped back onto the Sony PlayStation blog on Thursday with a bit of worse news: The network was still down, Sony was investigating, and it might be a day or two before gamers can jump online and frag their friends again. The online community reacted with a bit of frustration, but patience: It's not like major online console services haven't been down for inexplicable—and longer—periods of time before.

Friday rolled around and Seybold brought back the same news as before: Network's still down. However, he did shed a bit of new light on the reasons behind the downtime. According to Seybold, Sony purposefully shut the network down to address an "external intrusion" that hit the PlayStation Network and the company's Qriocity service.

Sony didn't go into any additional details as to what that "external intrusion" might have been, but unverified reports suggest that a denial-of-service attack targeted the primary PlayStation Network server. As well, additional denial-of-service attacks allegedly went after PlayStation Network servers that house user account information and, according to the report from PlayStation Universe, administrator developer accounts were even breached at one point.

Initial suggestions pointed fingers at Anonymous–the hactivist group that previously targeted Sony with alleged denial-of-service attacks. Pundits thought that Anonymous had re-upped its retribution campaign against Sony for the company's legal pursuit against alleged PS3 jailbreaker George Hotz.

According to a Saturday blog update from Seybold, Sony is taking this unexpected moment to rebuild its infrastructure even better than before–hence the continued delay.

"Though this task is time-consuming, we decided it was worth the time necessary to provide the system with additional security," Seybold wrote.

Sony officials have yet to issue an ETA for when the network might reappear. However, the source speaking to PlayStation Universe claims that Japanese servers should start reappearing on Monday, with U.S. and E.U. servers popping back up on Tuesday.

In other words, hang tight, PlayStation 3 fans: Everyone gets their turn on the wheel of downtime.

Sony have to rebuild the entire network to strengthen it against future attacks, hence why it's taking a while. But then again it hasn't been a while, it's been 4 days. 4 days of your entire life where you can't play online. People really need to relax a bit. Sony are one of the biggest technology companies in the world, they're not all standing around with their thumbs up their asses, scratching their heads wondering what the hell to do, these things take a lot of time. They never promised to get it running again in a few days, and that time frame may have been stated before the real size of the problem became apparent to them. Do you realise the magnitude of the job they have before them? All because someone hacked the network, obviously not Sony's fault so there's no reason in getting pissed at them. And yes this has happened plenty of times on xbox, once for two weeks as said before. I still have the same respect i had before for Sony and that won't change because I couldn't shoot somebody I don't even know in a virtual world that is full of people who just piss and moan at you when you do shoot them. Who knows how long it takes to rebuild and strengthen PSN, but they're working on it.

I'm not sure Sony here is telling us the entire truth. I'm sure they will keep their mouths shut about this.

It's the perfect time for me to play Killzone 3 single player since I haven't really touched that. Also I can catch up on my blu-rays too. They'll get it back up sooner or later. I'm anxious as many of you are. Just relax and do other things.

Going back to Sony's claim of being hacked. I'll take that with a grain of salt. My theory is that they messed up on something and couldn't figure out how to get it fixed. With that being messed up it probably had a cascading effect on the network and crashed. So who is to blame? Sony does not want to lose face and threw out the hackers being responsible for the crash.

Oh well, I mean it is just my theory. It might just be that the hacker/s did hack their system. Either or, we'll never really know. I'm not on Sony's side or the hackers. I'll just have to wait until they can bring it back online. Hope everyone will be patient.

im sill loyal 2 SONY even though the servers are down, it isnt like if it was their fault ... But sadly we CANT get $20 on our accounts or anything like that because they are aware that SOME people have about 5 or more accounts on their PS3 so it would be absurd to give $ to every account. And Xbox had a shut down of 14 days .. hopefully it does not take that long 4 sony to bring the servers back up.

ok im tired of ppl complaining about the outage..one: like everyone is sayin stfu!! its a free service and u save more money the the xbox users and dont try to argue cuz i can crunch numbers all day and give u every saving ps3 has over 360. two: if it was sonys fault that the network was shut down then id say yea ppl have a right to ***** about it..but it wasnt they were hacked by some low life self centered douche bags that say there doin it for us..if u get jumped and r hospitalized for it is it ur fault? no its the assholes that jumped u...three: ok the info they gave us on wat was goin on wasnt the truth in some respects.. and yea the eta was false... but do u honastly think they can fix this in a day? admin accounts were hacked and possably valuable data was stolen copyed or jus straight up hacked for god sakes!! psn has 78million+ users all across the world u cant exsactly put that on a flash drive and put it on a diff server...were talkin terabites of data that has to be copyed..checked..and reuploaded to another server ...so wat that its taking so long xboxs longest outage was like 2 and a half weeks thats a lil over 4 times longer then were waiting now AND might i add xboxLIVE users pay for there online gameing. listen im a lil pissed to that i cant get online and gun down my friends but ppl are taking this a lil too seroiusly, im seeing ppl breaking there $300 systems and buying a xbox. or selling there ps3 or watever... xbox cant do it like ps3 plain and simple..blueray, sweet grafics, sixaxis, internet browser, less problems...like the commercials say guys..it does everything...mb wen psn goes up and they compensates for the delay u fence players will realize sonys the way to go. playstation all day baby!!

At first I was like what the heck is wrong now! And as I realized it wasn't my internet connection I searched the internet to find out that, the whole system is down. Thank god! I thought for sure it was my system or internet connection. Because I like playing in the bath tub. Personally it is upsetting to me that I now have a job and girl friend. I can't wait for the free service to come back, so I can spend the rest of my days pwning noobs. I was only 1st prestige. And feel that the damage done would have been awesome if it died and resurrected on Easter. But sadly more damage was done then we thought. And honestly its one thing to be awesome at a game and pissing others off. But to be awesome at coding and pissing off 70million + people world wide almost immediately. Thats truly epic. As well as annoying. Owell.. Good day

it dont matter if on-line is free dude.....the games we have cost $65.00 each......so yea we have the right to be pissed we didnt pay $65.00 to play single player over & over........the main reason we buy games is to smack some noobs around in multi-player! I think SONY needs to put atleast $20.00 on PSN players accounts day 4 & still no server.....i was told 3 days ago by SONY it would be back up by the end of the work day.......must be a long a** work day! i came back 2 SONY leaving 360 in the trash b/c of all the crappy things going on, on their end....but it's b/s when my wife is blasting ppl away on her 360 while i sit around all sad looking at my PS3 wondering when i can shoot some noobs! so in short we have the right to be pissed......SONY do your job, we want servers back soon or something in our On-line wallet or we all going to Microsoft! Our trust & loyalty are getting more slim each passing day! oCRIMExWAVEo

Hi,

This is a link where you can downlod for free Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3: http://bit.ly/1oh7ojd

I used to play Mortal Kombat in the arcades before, and I can say that this game is good and unique. The game started in the early to mid 90s, and also died in the same decade and revived in the 2000s with the strong, deadly alliance and its new sequels.

Sometimes people like you make me laugh. who cares if they tell us the truth or not, what matters is that the online service is down and should be fixed, SHORT AND SIMPLE. its not like the end of the world where the government lies about everything being ok.

So my friend please calm down, I'm sure you can find other thing to occupy your taught for the time being.

I wonder what you will do or whether it will make you feel better is they told you the truth, i for one feel no different from when they lied till the truth. :)

everyone has this all wrong,

dont blame sony, blame anon, sony has to REBUILD their WHOLE system, this is going to take awhile. we have to be patient on this one. I can defintley almost feel there will be some kind of compensation (free download of some sort) from sony. so dont worry.

Sony's got this!

I'd rather wait four more days so that they can secure everything, especially with credit card numbers that might be in their system from dlc buys.

This clearly an attack on us and our way of life. If you really love America you"ll play your PS3 OFFLINE!!

Why are people still complaining? It will only get worst.
