I will accept either one of two years the first originally established but I will accept the year it changed its name to what we know now. It will really impress me if you know both along with the original company name.

Also what does the companies name translate to? (The one we know nowerdays)

First to get it right gets 10 points

Either Atari, Nintendo, the those arcade games. Or PC's. I heard one of them was started in 1950.

Atari was the first home computer for use by general people, in the early 1970's.

Nintendo created the first modern console in 1985 called the Famicon, which was more commonly released as the NES in 1987 I believe.

They also released the first portable handheld in 1989; the GameBoy, which has dominated the market ever since.

I'm assuming you mean video game company.

I think it's Atari, incorporated in 1972. It shipped PONG in November of that year.

It means several things, but since I can't find its kanji, I'll list all I found in the Random House Japanese-English Dictionary:

1. neighborhood; area

2. around

3. hit; success; (lottery) winning.

I guess it's actually closer to the 3rd definition, from the ff: "Nolan Bushnell wanted to name the company Sygyzy, but it was the name of an existing roofing company. So he settled on the name Atari, a Japanese word from the board game GO, essentially meaning 'Checkmate'."

Spacewar 1962? By a set of MIT programmers...

I was going to say Atari too, but that seemed too late.

Atari, 1981 (I think)

Or it's the one that created PONG in the 70's.
