i have a ton of codes for emerald, and a friend told me they should work since they're all the same gen, but another said it will screw up my game

no. if you mean action replay/xploder codes the master code is designated for the game your playing, in order for the code to work you would need the code list and master for those games. but as emerald is a cleaned up sapphire and ruby, why would you neeed to anyway?

I don't think so, They shouldn't screw your game up but they shouldn't work.
