You asked what was the best "original NES" game ever made. But you made a few honorable mentions and within those are some games that were made by a third party Konami, etc...

If you're looking for Nintendo NES games in general...Contra has to make that list. SNK Made a great two player game in Ikari Warriors. You cannot go wrong with the Super Mario Bros., Metroid, Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr., Dragon Warrior (RPG), tecmo bowl, RBI Baseball, 1943, Castlevania, duck hunt, double dribble, blades of steel, exccitebike, RC Pro AM, The Legend of Zelda, Kung Fu.... to name a few. Find these and enjoy!!

The Legend of Zelda is easily nintendo's best game without question with Super Mario Bros. coming in a close second. Zelda was revolutionary and so popular that it is still loved and remembered by ANYONE who EVER owned and played it on NES. That's why Zelda remains nintendo's BIG project whenever they make a new system. Mario Bros. and Super Mario Bros. were actually ARCADE cabinets before making their way onto the NES. so technically they are not ORIGINAL NES games. Zelda didn't waste time on bullpoop like alotta games do now. ever since the playstation one final fantasy 7 came out rpg's and adventure games had too much dialogue and video footage getting in the way of playing the game. a game should just be pick up and play using your own common sense, memory and skills that will determine how far you progress in the game. Im not saying current games are bad, just that there is SO much unnecessary blah blah blah that takes away from the gaming experience. One game I remember for the Playstation 2 that imitated zelda was ICO and SHADOW of the COLOSSUS. these games you dont talk to anyone, just fight and explore. Bionic Commando is also another great original NES game. this was also an ARCADE at first, but then capcom decided to change it into an action-adventure with different levels than the original arcade and adding a story to it. a small amount of blah is fine.

My fav game when I was a kid was Dragon Warrior, I liked it better than Ultima, Final Fantasy, Zelda. Probably boring compared to most RPG's today. Castlevania III was also a great gaming experience, probably more fun than Dragon Warrior. Most played overall was Baseball Allstars which kept player stats & allowed character customization. Juicing an entire team up took time but was fun in the long run.

In college, I had a collection of game systems and the NES got a lot of use. Excitebike, Mike Tyson's Punchout, Blades of Steel, and Double Dribble were crowd favorites.
