There are two possible problems. The first one, which is probably the most likely problem, is that you turned off the engines sounds in the fsx settings. Go to the Settings tab, and click on Sound. You will find various setting, like the pilots voice, and the sound level of different noises, like engine, pilot, atc, exterior. Make sure that the Engine slider is all the way up. If it isn't, then there is something wrong with the file that it is in. If only one aircraft doesn't have engine sounds, then the engine sounds have probably been deleted. If more than one aircraft have no engine sounds, you can consider re-installing FSX, as long as you won't lose any add-ons. If nothing works, then go on http://support.microsoft.com/kb/177252 which is a the help page for it. There are many different possible causes, and lots of solutions.

I hope this helps.

I had the problem of no engine sound playing from my F1 Tech Aircrafts and some of the default airplanes in FSX and even P3D. I tried everything but finally:

Since I have Asus Realtek HD Audio, i found that in "Sound Effects > Environment" you need to set that to "Generic" and the engines come on again and all is well.

It probably is the same problem with other audio cards. The problem is definitely that of the hardware not the software.

By the way you do not have to launch FSX or P3D to test this, just double click the "rpm or var" sound files of the airplanes folders in the SimObjects folder in the FSX or P3D program folders.

Enjoy.

The comand in FS2004 was once Shift + F1, I havent flown jets in FSX to respond to that yet you are able to constantly attempt utilising those keys. If FSX jets are designed like the genuine international then possibly opposite thrust wont artwork because of the fact the hydraulic actuators beginning the cowls on the engines wont activate. In FSX in case you are able to open opposite thrust whilst flying then you particularly are possibly utilising a third occasion airplane that became meant for FS2004.
