I'm not sure when it will officially be released, but you can actually get it right now by following this link the the wiki! Scroll down the page to the "Minecraft 1.5 Snapshots & Pre-releases" section, then find 1.5.2, which should be at the top.

Once you have the .jar file downloaded, replace your old minecraft.jar with the new one. I hope this helps! You can also do the same thing with the even newer (but not yet finished) versions of 1.6.

I think they are aiming for 1.6 ...

But you can get the snapshots from mojang.com
