I just bought an used Battlefield 3 game and it came with the online pass code but it was already redeemed, but I don't have xbox live gold right now and when I try to play MP it just says " your current XBOX LIVE account do not have the correct permission to play XBOX LIVE" or something like that so I'm just wondering do you need online pass to play MP? And if I do then I think it's a waste of money to buy online pass JUST for THE MP

Online* pass there Jerry. 2 totally different things.

Either way yeah. You need both. XBL for Microsoft to let you use your console to play online and the Online Pass to access EA's servers.

So yup. XBL Gold is STILL a ripoff. Especially with their thinly veiled attempt to make it seem not so terrible next to PS+. [Even though the games with gold games are FAIL. Fable 3 sucks next to Fable 2, and as for Halo 3 and AC 2... HAVEN'T THERE BEEN 3 MORE GAMES IN BOTH SERIES ALREADY?]

You need XBox Live service active AND a valid season pass. You didn't necessarily waste your money because you can play the single player campaign. You just can't play online.

You need to have a gold account and an online pass.
