Hey so i got counter strike source and i see a striking simliarity between Half Life, Orange Box, and Team Fortress Two. I have a few questions: a) what is the relationship between all these games b) two, what is the relationship between CS:S, ValvE, and Steam, and c) i just saw this version of CS called Condtition Zero that was released in March 04- is this played by more or less people than CS:S. Thanks!!

A) They are all made by the same game company, Valve. Hence they all use the same game engine, called Source Engine.

B) Steam is Valve's media distribution platform for PC. Counter Strike Source is a game developed by Valve, a remastered version of Counter Strike 1.6 for Source Engine. Counter Strike originally started off as a mod of Half-Life 1, but Valve took it over and it became what you see now. (Left 4 Dead started out as a mod from Counter Strike Source, if you're wondering).

C) Condition Zero was an updated version of Counter Strike that gave you more weapons, a brief single player, and better looking graphics. More people play CS:S. TONS of people still play CS 1.6. Last time I checked, CS 1.6 had 10,000 servers. CS:S probably has more now. CZ only has about 5% of CS 1.6's.

Also: CS 1.6 and Condition Zero use Valve's older engine, the Goldsrc Engine.

a) All the games are run on Valve's Source engine, so they look pretty similar. They're all developed by the same people at Valve.

b) Steam is Valve's game distribution system. Most games running on the Source engine are linked to Steam, even if they weren't made by Valve (example: Dark Messiah of Might and Magic)

c) Condition Zero is a version of the original Counter-Strike, there are still some people playing it, but not very many.
