Hi, I'm from the UK but don't know weather to get the Super Famicom or pal snes. If I get the Japanese one can I play the games in English? I after collecting rpgs and as far as I'm aware done final fantasy, was only released in Japan. (please correct me if I'm wrong)

Any replies will be greatly appreciated!

Get the PAL SNES, because you can't play English-language games on a Japanese Super Famicom.

Sorry if I'm misinterpreting your question, if you want a SNES/Super Famicom because you believe there are FF games unreleased in the West, that's not true - they've all been re-released on other, more accessible formats, in English, with much better translations and often some extras too.

FF1 and 2 are on GBA as a special advanced version including a 'sequel' of sorts to FF2 called Dawn of Souls. There is a graphically enhanced version on PSN with even more content, this has been ported to iOS too.

FF3 was released on DS. You can get it on the PSN too, as well as iOS. Even Ouya. However it's very different from the original which was on the Famicom, as it's all done in a free-moving 3D style instead of the usual grid-based 2D. This isn't to be confused with what was released in the US as FF3, which is actually FF6.

FF4 was released on GBA as an Advance version with additional content. It was later released on DS, without the advance content but with some new content of its own. FF4 Complete is the definitive version I think, on PSN, containing the Advance version of FF4, the sequel, After Years, and an exclusive in-between game called Interlude.

FF5 was released on GBA as an Advance version. I think it has had a port to iOS with updated graphics.

FF6 was also released on GBA as an Advance version.

There are other versions of the above like the PS1 Anthology, but I feel I've mentioned the definitive versions in terms of translation quality.

If you simply want to play them in their original forms, you will need a Super Famicom, special connectors and a lot of cash!

Older systems are hard to import between regions, particularly between NTSC and PAL. If you got a SFC you would need an adapter to change the power input to 110v 60hz so you don't fry it. Even then, you would need a NTSC-compatible TV to play it on, since it won't work with the PAL standard. Unfortunately, the SFC, being a Japan-only system, only plays games in Japanese (some games, like action and shooter games, aren't affected by the language barrier, but if you want to play RPGs, you'd probably have to start learning Japanese). If you want to play Japan-only games in English, you might want to look into online fan-translations and ways of playing them on emulators.

super famicom games and snes games are different sizes and wont fit in each other.

ff4 and 6 were released on snes as 2 and 3 (only snes ff's) if you want ff2-ff6 you have to get a super famicom. may i also suggest chrono trigger, thats my fav rpg.
