I'm kind of new to gaming. I like open world, sandbox RPG, survival and stealth games, my favorite game so far being Skyrim. I generally like Sci-Fi and fantasy themes, but I'm open to just about any theme.

Open-World, Sandbox, RPG, Survival, Stealth, Sci-Fi / Fantasy... While I may not hit everything on your list, I do have a fairly healthy list of recommendations for you...

First, in the "Free to Play" section... stuff to try out would be...

* Starbreak -- A shooter MMO that has a "Contra" like feel to gameplay.

* Spiral Knights -- A Sci-Fi mystery dungeon MMO that has gameplay similar to Zelda: Four Swords

* Path of Exile -- A Diablo-like MMO

In the commercial / retail section of Steam...

* Terraria / Starbound -- These are feel like 2D variations of Minecraft, but a little more adventure. Starbound takes things a step further by going into space (with multiple worlds).

* Retro City Rampage DX -- This is an loving 8-bit spoof of the GTA series that's drenched in 80's & early 90's cultural references.

* Don't Starve -- A somewhat dark survival game that's challenging.

* Final Fantasy series (III - XIII) -- The classic RPG series that spans both Sci-Fi & Fantasy (not necessarily in the same game)

* Torchlight series -- A more budget-friendly variation on the Diablo formula that has a solid story & gameplay.

* Monaco -- This multiplayer caper game has you (& your team) collecting items while avoiding the guards & the various security traps.

* Elite: Dangerous -- One of the largest games in terms of the "world map" (which is the ENTIRE Milky Way galaxy), which includes exploration, trade & combat... however, what you choose to do in-game & online is up to you.

* Dark Souls series -- One of the hardest RPG-Adventure series ever made. While the difficulty is extremely brutal, it's also one of the more fair as all enemies (including bosses) play by the rules of the world & those who are observant (or those who are persistent enough to remember) can catch a glimpse of what the game is going to throw at you ahead of time (as those "surprises" are actually planted in the game waiting for you the let your guard down & catch you off-guard).

* Rocket League -- While only catching the Sci-Fi genre, this game (effectively RC car soccer, when you boil it down to is bare essentials) is fun to play with others & online. It's one of the few competitive "eSports" titles where it's OK to suck in social (unrated) games. Includes cross-platform support with PS4 & XBox One for PC players (although, not at the same time... PS4 & XBox One players cannot play in the same match due to legal restrictions with Sony, although the framework for such support has been developed & ready to be immediately implemented as soon as Sony & Microsoft come to an agreement).

There's like other games that I'm overlooking here, but this should get you started. Enjoy!

Star Conflict; it's a free to play space arcade shooter with 3 basic ship types each with 3 different classes (interceptor: ecm (stunner), covert ops, recon. Fighter: command (support), tackler, gunship. Frigate: engineer, guard (tank), long range, a special ship class (destroyer), 4 factions (Empire (High damage strong hulls weak shields), Federation (low damage low defence ludicrous speed), Jericho (huge shields almost no hulls med everything else), and Ellydium(reverse engineered alien ships all completely customizable (only 2 released so far))) all with different designs, 15 different tech levels and with offsets so a rank 1 won't be against anything above rank 3 outside a co-op, an open world with 71 different areas each over 10km^3 (most well over that size but some event areas are just modified corridor maps), PvP (8 game modes, 40 maps) and PvE (10 unique mission), player vs AI (PvP but with humans against bots for practice), and raids (2 so far, 1 massive boss vs 12 players).

if you liked skyrim you should check out fallout 3, new vegas, and 4... they play very similarly, but they are set in an alternate, post apocalyptic reality...

If you have a fairly decent rig, (not talking compared to a hardcore gaming rig, but rather something with a bit of video ram and a decent processor) I would recommend Rainbow Six: Siege, PlayerUnknowns Battlegrounds, Battlefield 1, Battlefield 4 (gonna need premium at this point), Halo Wars 2, Halo 5 Forge (free multiplayer game). If you have a tight-ish budget, I would try R6:S, because you can get that one on sale for like $15 online or in-store.

survival - outlast 1 and 2 if 2 is out right now it should be comming out soon., Ark Survival, i think the is one called The Woods which your basically a last passenger stuck in a random wood with weird monsters that destroy your base which imo is cool. i think there is also one called DayZ which is some open world zombie survival game. some say this game isn't worth getting idk doesn't look visually appealing imo. idk if DayZ was the name it's on a few lists for survival games on youtube.

Sandbox - probably ESO, GTA 5 if you can run it, minecraft. idk how ESO is on PC i have it but since i bought it i can't play it because it's so damn laggy and since then i stopped playing it but i have played the console version and it's pretty good.

stealth - outlast 1 and 2 it's all about stealth you basically only have a camera to record your surroundings and it helps to see in the dark but you can't attack people/things you can only hide. idk many other stealth games other then that well maybe alien isolation as well it's similar but i think you get some weapons to hide.

the best bang for your money imo is gta 5. i've only gotten so far in the story but it's never let me down. i have outlast 1 as well. another note worthy game imo is resident evil 7 it's a very good game but it's not open world it has sneaking and survival other then that and lots of puzzles which is good. i think you can beat it easily though and after a while it gets annoying fighting the same boss like 3+ times but you need to play to understand why they come back.

idk any good sci fi games besides eve online and starcraft maybe warframe

ESO is on sale right now.

Mount and Blade:Warband is a hell of a lot of fun. The graphics are dated but the game play more then makes up for it. It's a medieval themed sandbox.

Dragon's Dogma:Dark Arisen - the story is meh and all of the characters are forgettable but the combat is where this game shines.

Open world sandbox survival game with sci-fi theme? Subnautica is the game for you. It's currently in early-access, but don't let that deter you from buying. That game drops you into an alien ocean planet where you are left with no real tutorials or full instructions; you must explore your options and learn to fend for yourself against dangerous sea creatures. You need shelter, food, and water 24/7 (if you're playing survival mode). Subnautica later becomes more about exploration, and you can toy with sandbox elements, including a very flexible and deep base building system and terraforming. Large submarines and deeper secrets are also integral parts of the game.... explore, survive, fight! #Better than no man's sky

If you want pure open world and survival, I would recommend The Long Dark. This game is also early-access, but is replayable for the palpable challenge it harbours as well as a drive to keep alive and escape the harsh, winter land. It's set in the Canadian wilderness after a geo-magnetic disaster left the world in a permanent winter. The Long Dark is constantly about survival, you're always hungry or thirsty or cold, and you have to hold your own against wolves and bears.

For exploration and RPG, I suggest you try Starbound. It's compared to Terraria a lot because of a similar art-style and rather similar mining and fighting mechanics, but Starbound is about exploration and seeing the infinite universe while trying to stop a world-destroying being. SO MUCH better than that trash that its No Man's Sky.

If you like Skyrim I'd definitely recommend the Fallout games. Not sure about F4, as it's not really and RPG, but they're all still impressive games in their own right.

The Far Cry games also fall into your category, but I can only really recommend 2 and 3. 4 has some problems. 2 has some more survival mechanics as well as a more realistic note, and 3 has an amazing open world with loads of stuff to see and shoot.

Stealth? Just get Metal Gear Solid V The Phantom Pain.... it's on steam but I would really perfer you play on console as the PC port has some problems with bugs and options but the game is still well worth your time and money. It has some of the most flexible, engaging gameplay I've ever seen, with you deciding how you want to do pretty much anything. There are so many different ways to infiltrate bases or complete missions that it will leave your jaw on the floor.

Those are just some games I like that I think you would like, hope this helps!

I don't know what kind of specs your computer has, but fallout new vegas/ fallout 3 runs on most computers, gmod is a must have for all pc gamers, my favorite game to play with some friends and kill time is Ultimate Chicken Horse, a nice indie/retro/survival game is Risk of Rain (hard at times, but really makes your palms sweat when you get far). Don't forget Half-life and Portal games those are as well a PC must have.

Hope I helped a bit, enjoy your gaming!
